Silver Linings Playbook

Trailer

The best way I can describe Silver Linings Playbook would be to say it's 'When Harry Met Sally with a severe case of OCD'. I will be honest, I was somewhat disappointed at first, based on the first half hour. It's a very hard movie to sit through. Not that it was bad, but dealing with 3 characters that have some serious issues makes it somewhat of a chore to sort out. Bradley Cooper's character is just out of a Mental Institution and is trying to win back his estranged wife. He is dealing with some serious bi-polar issues and is very delusional about her wanting to get back with him. Jennifer Lawrence's character is just as f*cked up as Cooper, but is dealing with a dead husband complex as well as being labeled the town "****". With both characters being so messed up, naturally they would be a perfect fit, even if they don't know it. Right? More on that later.

As "bad" as these two are, I found  Robert De Niro's character to be the most f*cked up of the bunch. He has taken his Sunday Football superstition to a whole 'nother level. It's beyond OCD in his attempt to give the Eagles their 'JuJu' so that they will win their games and he can profit from it. But when things don't go accordingly to plan, he naturally blames Cooper. So, who's the f*cked up one here? Exactly.

Getting back to Cooper and Lawrence, I thought they played off each other extremely well and made sitting through the later part of the film easier to digest. Best part of the movie of course is the Dance Competition and the reaction from everyone involved about scoring a  'average score of 5' kinda made it worth it. Like I said, this is basically When Harry Met Sally. It even comes equipped with Cooper running at the very end in the final scene to catch up to Lawrence to profess his love for her. At the start of the movie I was set to dismiss it entirely. But by the end it kinda won me over. It's still not the movie I thought it would be based on all the rave reviews, but it is still worth a Rent. I can recommend this for sure, but not sure I will ever watch it again though. Be on the lookout for Chris Tucker, who I haven't seen in anything since......well, can't remember when.

I didn't eve get to the end of the movie to see those things. Maybe you're right... It was a chore.

Bottom line.... I was not entertained.

I do think that Jennifer was definitely deserving of the award, but I do agree that the movie was not. I guess Academy voters like this particular type of film when it comes to voting.

I've never really felt much draw to see it.  My sister was explaining the story to me about a year ago when we went on a road trip but... it didn't click for me.
