Source Code is a brilliant movie and it's exactly the kind of film I get off on. I love movies that go outside of the box and make the viewer work at paying attention and then being rewarded at the end. Complex doesn't necessarily mean a movie has to be confusing, it just has to be original with a unique narrative in telling it's story. Best way to describe this would be a mash up between the sensibility of "Time Travel" and
Groundhog Day with some
Inception thrown in for good measure as our hero
Capt. Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) has 8 minutes to find out who the bomber is and stop a disaster, not just on a train, but in the city of Chicago as well. The 8 minutes keeps replaying over and over until he can complete his mission. But there is more than just the mission itself that really makes this one fly. The twist is definitely one that makes you go "whooooa".
I won't go into great detail about much of the movie and certainly not about the twist because this is a movie that you have to experience first hand to get the most out of it and I will not ruin it for anyone that has yet to see this. But I will say this, half way through the movie I told myself that this premise is tailor made for multiple sequels and sure enough, they basically set it up that the project can continue on. So, I am very hopeful that we will see more. This is ripe for a kick ass franchise. Elsewhere, I love
Michelle Monaghan and I can't get enough of her. Am I the only one that thinks she could be the big sister of
Emma Stone?
Anyway, I highly recommend this as a
Buy. This is a movie that will benefit multiple viewings. Go get it now!
