Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
« on: October 18, 2015, 10:15:55 am »

Mad Max: Fury Road is easily the best movie I have seen in the past year. It's f*cking awesome in every way. And even though I thought the initial trailer launch had me hooked, I was still somewhat reluctant to buy into a Mad Max movie without Mel Gibson. It's something I'm going to have to deal with eventually when they transistion someone else to play Indian Jones in the near future. I mention Indy for a reason because just as iconic as Harrison Ford is as Indy, the same can be said for Mad Max. So, as excited as I was to finally check out Fury Road, I had somewhat of a defiant attitude when I pushed play. That attitude pretty much dissipated once the first shot of the film revealed itself. I was hooked and ready to be taken away to another place. I knew I was going to be in for a treat and boy, was I ever.

What we get, in my eyes....and ears, is a cinematic masterpiece. George Miller did an amazing job visually and his directing style is definitely noticeable and I love it.  There are certain film making aesthetics in Fury Road that immediately tie into that of Road Warrior. I look at Fury Road as being the true sequel to Road Warrior that Thunderdome should have been. But that's another story in itself.  Now, I said that this is the true "sequel" to Road Warrior, but I'm sure that there are going to be people that complain that it's too similar to RW and they would be right. Yes, a lot of the movie hinges on Max driving from Point A to Point B, only to discover that the original objective never existed (RW a tanker full of sand and Fury's Green Place). The set pieces of Fury make this an instantly memorable movie going experience, but it's the inclusion of Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa and Nicholas Hoult as Nux that give this one a lasting impression. Tom Hardy does a great job of Max and is a worthy successor to Mel Gibson, but least be real here, Theron is the star that "drives" Fury Road to great heights. The acting all around from everyone is deep. There's an emotional toll one gets watching Furiosa navigate her 'family' to safety, both physically as well as internally. I can't recommend Fury Road with more enthusiasm. Definitely Buying this for my personal DVD Library. I really need to buy this now because I want to jump right back in and watch it again. FYI, Charlize is f*cking phenomenal in this if you haven't already surmised.  :)
