Autómata

Trailer

Autómata borrows heavily from a number of sources...intentional or not. For the night scenes, the first and only thing that comes to mind is Blade Runner. For the day scenes, you can see that District 9 had a hand in influencing it's visual look. As far as the premise goes, one can easily see that Battlestar Galatica as it's prime progenitor, more so than the Terminator franchise. The movie is about Robots becoming self-sufficient and becoming their own race far removed from just being servants of the Human Race. Because this film is more intellectual about Life and Death, I can tie it directly to the Cylons and their pursuit of God.  As far as the movie goes, there are some good, interesting things going on. But it's a very inconsistent film that never really has any kind of pay-off for the viewer. Great setup in the first act, solid second act and then let down in the final act because you can see where it's going a mile away. If you are into Sci-Fi, I think you could get something out of this. Worth a Rent. Not sure if I would ever watch it again though. One thing to take note of is not to be mislead by the DVD cover or the trailer. This is not an action adventure movie. It's abut uncovering the truth about how the Robots become their own entity.

FYI, getting a hold of this movie right in the middle of my Battlestar Galatica DVD Marathon was nothing more than a coincidence. It arrived at my Library and I had no choice but to pick it up.

I was looking at this... Had it ordered I'm my Netflix queue and then watched it drop in star ratings over time... Too a point of figuring out, it was not much of a movie to invest time.

Thanks for the review. Now I have a clearer and more confirmed view of why I'll skip this one.

Damn covers.
