Ted
Unrated

Trailer

I went into Ted with high expectations with this basically being a Seth MacFarlane production as Writer & Director as well as the voice of Ted himself. It's kind of hard not to anticipate something monumental with the majority of people out there raving that this was THE best comedy of the year. Sure, there were some funny moments, but I wouldn't say this was the best and certainly not the funniest one at that. The premise was good if not entirely original. I think that the story was somewhat aimless because of the premise. We are ask to invest in the romance between John (Mark Wahlberg) and Lori (Mila Kunis), but that's a huge hurdle to jump when we are just waiting for any scenes between John and Ted to manifest.

It's their relationship that really does produce the best gags and jokes, as vulgar as most will probably say it is. I think that anytime Walhberg is sharing screen time with Ted, it's a mind blowing experience because I totally forget that Mark is acting within his imagination and making it 100% believable. But as good as he is, it's really the Seth-Show. His voice acting as Ted really does make him come alive. But the movie as a whole was somewhat of a letdown for me. High expectations tend to make it harder for a movie to deliver.

I still think it's worth a Rent just to see Mark acting opposite a CGI Teddy bear and to hear Seth bring life to the character.  Mila is always nice to look at too, so the movie has that working for it too. Giovanni Ribisi was funny as the man obsessed with owning Ted for himself.

Yea, it was OK, with the occasional great laugh. I think it did great either at the Theater or on DVD sales. I imagine it might produce a sequel.

My review here.

Thanks for the link. I knew you wrote one, but it wasn't coming up in the search function.
