Everest (2015)

Trailer

On paper Everest should have kicked ass, but in reality, it doesn't. With a movie packing a lot of familiar faces (Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson, and Jake Gyllenhaal), you would think it would succeed on some level. It doesn't. The film is based on a true story (one I've never heard of until tonight) and that should have been the first clue that this wasn't going to be the movie I wanted to see. Based on the trailer, they lead you to believe it's going to be this thrilling, pull yourself-up-from-your-bootstraps flick. I was expecting something along the lines of Rocky where you keep getting knocked down and you keep getting up to finally summit Mount Everest. I got duped. The movie doesn't really kick in until AFTER they have reached their goal at the top. The first hour is pretty boring and then instead of feeling euphoria at seeing them make it, it turns depressing as f*ck as people fall off cliffs, freeze over into ice statues or get stranded at the summit and meet a similar fate. This is the last thing I wanted to see and it left a very bad taste in my mouth. Can't recommend this at all. I'm probably in the minority, but I'm one of the few that didn't like Everest. Skip.

It wasn't great, but I was mildly entertained. The thing that stood out to me were the bad decisions made. This just domino'd into fatalities. I think they were focusing on those individuals who are too smart to make such bad decisions and they tried to capture those moments of no return. I thought that was heart breaking.
