The Brave One

Trailer

Having just recently watched Jodie Foster at the Golden Globes a couple of weeks ago, I wanted to revisit some of my favorite films of hers as well as hit some of the movies that for whatever reason I never got around to. The Brave One is one of those movies that's been on my radar since it came out. Just took a long time to get around to it. So, here we are. I'm really unsure of how I feel about this movie. It's not a bad movie by any stretch. I just think because I've grown up with her all my life and followed both her personal and professional career, there is a lot of baggage that comes with watching this particular type of movie, with this character, which is something I don't associate with her at all. Maybe The Accused comes close, but not on this level.

Her character, after a brutal beating that leaves her bloody and battered and her boyfriend dead, goes on a killing spree. The movie on the surface is very much like that of Death Wish. Kinda. Now, you would normally expect the movie to kick into overdrive right from the get go that she will get retribution against the same people that did her harm. It doesn't quite play out that way at all, which for me was a complete shock. It's not until the 3rd Act does she actually seek vengeance. Everything before that is basically her trying to clean up and rid the streets of scum.

Like I said, the movie does a great job and Terrence Howard was good in it. Definitely worth a Rent if you like Revenge/Thrillers. The movie does make you think about where you draw the line and whether or not its morally acceptable to cross it if no one else is willing to do it themselves.
