The Curious Case Of Benjamin Buttons is a sentimental journey through life, as we follow
Benjamin from newborn baby to the end of his life 80 years later. The twist is that he was born old, ages backwards and then dies as a baby. The Special FX were amazing, especially the first half of his life as we see a really old and tiny
Brad Pitt.
If you are a fan of
Forrest Gump, you are sure to like this one as well. There are a lot of similarities between the two from they way they are written and filmed as well as some very similar story beats. I was curious to see who wrote the screenplay for Benjamin and sure enough, it was by Eric Roth, who wrote Forrest Gump as well.
I think both
Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and
Taraji P. Henson gave amazing performances and it's no wonder why
Brad and Tararji were both nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress respectively. But what I didn't know was that Jarred Harris was in this as Captain Mike Clark. Most people today will know him best from
Fringe. As for
Tararji, she can currently be seen in
Person Of Interest.
I will skip all the comparisons between this movie and
Forrest Gump as I'm sure it's already been done a thousand times by now. But I will say that even though I like this movie, I think it's missing that certain 'It' factor that elevates
Forrest Gump to greater heights.
I still recommend this as a
Buy for sure.
Off topic, I got chills when I heard that in the story, the birth day of
Benjamin was
November 11, 1918 is the same as my Grandma. Goosebumps.
