Deepwater Horizon (2016)

Trailer

I can't remember really paying much attention to the trailer when it dropped, but in the back of my mind, I actually thought this was going to be some sort of science fiction flick in large part because of Event Horizon. Needless to say, Deepwater Horizon is NOT that! This flick is a True Story about the BP Oil Spill the rig that went up in flames. The story is pretty simple, but it's told exceptionally well by Peter Berg, who doesn't really get much credit as a film director. I've always enjoyed the bulk of what he has done. The pacing, editing and characters go a long way in telling the story. Mark Wahlberg and Kurt Russell carry the movie with minor support from Kate Hudson and Gina Rodriguez and the always good John Malkovich. Once we get to the destruction of the platform, the action really gets kicked up a notch and holds you to the very end. Definitely worth a Rent. Be sure to stay to the End Credits for real footage of the testimony and those that lost their lives.
