The Goonies

Trailer

The Goonies to me still has a hold over me, no matter when I watch it or how many times I have seen it. It still taps into that part of me that makes me go along for the ride, fullfilling my imagination just as it did when I saw this for the first time in the theaters. What's not to love about this movie? Booby Traps. Pirate Ship. Treasure. Water Slides. And of course a lovable man-child in the form of Sloth. I've lost count of how many times I have in fact watched The Goonies. But it wasn't until tonight when it hit me that amid all this fun and outlandish stuff, that this was molded after those 70's Disney flicks like Gus, The Love Bug, Freaky Friday, The Apple Dumpling Gang and Pete's Dragon. What do these all have in common? Absolutely nothing....except tone. The all have that shared DNA of family and how it's presented to the viewer.

Looking back at the film, it's just so strange to see such a tiny, little Sean Astin. Small little kid. Even Corey Feldman is forever immortalize in this one and no amount of screwups in has in his life is gonna erase this one. The rest of the gang was awesome here.

I highly recommend this and is a definite Buy.

The cast of ‘The Goonies’ — where are they now?

Josh Brolin looks bad ass today. Everyone else just looks.....bad.

This is one of those movies I didn't grow up with... I don't even know the first time I actually saw it all the way through, it might not have been 'til High School for crying out loud.  I've only seen it a few times and it doesn't have a hold on me.  At least not yet.

Give it time. One day, when you least expect it.....you'll be a Goonie.

So CMT is showing Goonies. Watching the credits I saw

Screenplay: Chris Columbus
Story: Steven Spielberg

What's the difference? Did they work together?

Story is just an overall 'idea' of what is going to happen and who the primary characters are. It's usually very broad and doesn't entail too much detail when telling another person what is happening. Screenplay is the written word put down on paper which includes dialogue, scene descriptions, beats, etc....This is where all the details are fleshed out. Whether or not they actually sat in the same room together to knock this out....who knows. My guess is that Spielberg called Chris up over the phone and said "hey, I have an idea. It's about a bunch of kids going on a literal treasure hunt for buried gold all in the effort to save their house. Along the way, they get have to navigate their way through obstacles, etc...... Is this something that you're interested in? I'm sure that once they agreed to work on this they probably had more in depth conversations during the process of hammering out the script.
