The Guilt Trip

Trailer

Even though I've wanted to see The Guilt Trip since the first trailer hit, I still couldn't understand why EVERYONE at my Library seemed to be on the waiting list before me. I got my DVD copy today after a 5 month wait. Sheesh!! What further baffled my mind was the overall negativity this movie has gotten from the general public. I'm at a loss for words in what other people seem to call a "bad movie". I f*cking LOVE this movie!!! It does have a bare bones plot that basically is driving across the US, while on "vacation" with your mother. The thing that makes The Guilt Trip work for me is the undeniable chemistry between Barbara Streisand and Seth Rogen. Even though this movie offers some well place and well timed laughs, this isn't a laugh out loud type of Comedy that you might expect it to be.

I actually thought it was going to be a lowbrow comedy before I sat down to watch it. Well, a comedy like that of Meet The Fockers. Well, that wasn't a comedy either now that I think of it. But that's another story. Moving on. What we get in The Guilt Trip is a heartwarming film in which a Mother and a Son reconnect on a cross country journey, who herself unbeknownst to her, is going to reconnect with a long lost love from her childhood. I won't say anything more than that if you guys haven't seen it. But I will say that there is a moment that just hits the sweet spot. If you have been paying attention to the movie, especially what is said early on, you will absolutely be floored when a certain name is uttered that makes both the long trip and the movie itself well worth it. It was something I didn't see coming and when it does......absolutely priceless. Forget all the naysayers that seem to bash this movie. It is 100% false. Like I said, I love this movie and easily recommend this as a Buyfor sure. I want this in my personal DVD collection.

Agree. The chemistry works and the script is fun.
