After getting burned on the dreadfully boring
The Bastard Executioner, I wasn't really looking forward to checking out
The Last Kingdom at all. As a matter of fact, I started the first episode maybe 3 weeks ago and got into maybe 5 minutes of it before opting out. I still had the bad taste left over from
TBE that I just wasn't gonna go there again. Nothing is going to top
Game of Thrones, so why bother diving into that pool. Well, with nothing else on TV and no other DVDs at the Library to check out, I decided to give this one another shot and I'm glad that I did. Yes, from the outset, the series does come across as
Game-Of-Thrones-Lite. But that too is quickly discarded and finds its own footing. It adheres more to
Braveheart than anything else out there right now. What this series does have going for it are the right actors for each character. They are very interesting to watch and more importantly, the story itself is pretty good right from the start. I won't say much beyond the fact that a lot of characters you kind of get attached to end up in the ground one way or another. The
Season Finale's Battle was particularly good for a Series and very satisfying. Glad to hear that it has been picked up for
Season 2. Definitely check out
Season 1. Worth a
Rent.
