The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Special Extended DVD Edition

Trailer

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King had a huge hill to climb to trying to match, let alone exceed that of The Two Towers, especially when it came to it's final battle scene. Even though the fight was thrilling, it really doesn't even come close to what we got last time around. For years I have said that Return Of The King is the best film in the Trilogy. But having just watched the entire series again for the 5th time, the margin is getting closer and closer between TTT and ROTK. I think the reason why the gap is beginning to narrow is that ROTK has way too many 'false endings'. I've never seen a film with as many as there are here that constantly trick the viewer into believing the movie is over. But then there is a part of me that doesn't want the series to end, so I kinda look past it. Well, that's what I use to do. Now, it's kinda becoming a thorn. Personally, I think the movie should have ended at the point when the people and King Aragorn bow to the Hobbits: Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippen. When the camera pulls back from this shot to reveal the map of Middle-Earth, that's when the credits should have started to roll.

But I am curious if the amount of 'false endings' were in the theatrical release of the film. This review is based solely on the Special Extended DVD Edition and may in fact be much longer than the original release. Having said that, ROTK is definitely a 10 Star movie that I still get invested when watching it. Just a brilliant piece of film making by everyone involved.

I highly recommend this as a Buy.
