Spider-Man 2
Widescreen Special Edition

Trailer

Spider-Man 2 has everything that you would want in a superhero movie: Doubt, Guilt, Betrayal and Redemption, which makes this not only the best in the series, but one of the best in the genre itself. Everything they got wrong in Spider-Man, they got right here. First off, they had a villain that was actually sympathetic. You feel for Dr. Otto Octavius / Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina) , especially after his wife dies in an accident. Underneath the exterior of Doc Ock, you know him to be a good guy at heart. He's just confused and needs to be shown the error of his ways. The other thing going for this movie is the story itself. It's very engaging, the editing and pacing was spot on and most of the corny dialog is all but gone.

To be fair though, the plot itself isn't all that new. The movie owes a great deal to that of Superman II, which uses the same device of a Superhero relinquishing his role as the 'savior'. Examine both films closely and you will see a lot of similarities between the two beyond just the plot. Even the characterizations share the same DNA. In Spider-Man 2, there are some great Set pieces that really deliver on an emotional level for me. On top of that, it also gives us one of the coolest moments ever put on film in a Superhero movie and that's when the crowd stands in awe of Peter Paker / Spidey when his identity has been revealed. The crowd surfing scene where they carry him over their heads to give him comfort was brilliant and one of the best ever.

I highly recommend this as a Buy, which I already own.
