Kill Bill: Volume 1

Trailer

Love it or Hate it, Kill Bill: Volume 1 can't be ignored. The Revenge plot is about as basic as you can get and one that's been around since the dawn of time. It's what you do with the tried and true formula that makes it interesting...or not. Quentin Tarantino more than lives up to it here by giving us one bad ass, mother f ucking heroine in the form of The Bride (Uma Thurman). I think the entire film was an epic ride from start to finish and his song choices that underscore the scenes they are highlighting are brilliant. Cinematography here is nothing but eye candy and one that you can't look away from, try as you may.

One thing I have notice about certain filmmakers (QT, Kevin Smith, John Hughes), the further they get into their careers and become 'Brand Names' themselves with more and more Power in Hollywood, the further they get away from what originally got them noticed. As the budgets get bigger, the shift from dialog-heavy scripts are replaced with bigger Set Pieces. And Kill Bill is all about Set Pieces. So, if you're coming here for that witty banter between characters, you will be disappointed. But if you want action with lots of carnage, then this is the one for you.

Even though I rented this one, it is still a Buy for me. I have been holding out hopes of the rumored All-In-One, Colorized Crazy 88's Vs The Bride release. Will it ever happen? Who knows. But the day it does drop, I'm there!

Can't deny this flick changes around every corner. One of my tenets for a fin film. Not knowing what happens next. Despite two films, Kill Bill needs to be seen in its entirety. I would have never guessed Uma as a bad ass but as the exposé was pointing out for Death Proof, Tarantino takes genres and twists them here and there and reinvents a story.

I have Uma's number. I guess, if you twist my arm, I could call her.

No need to twist my arm. Already dialing......................

IGN News : No Kill Bill 3 for Tarantino

Well, this is disappointing to hear. I have been patiently waiting for Kill Bill Volume 3 since Tarantino announced his intention back when Volume 1 hit the Silver Screen. I'm wondering if his decision has more to do with the fact that he doesn't want to work with Uma Thurman, who he has no shot at anymore now that she is in another relationship and a family of her own. It's no secret the dude had a major crush on her and wrote Kill Bill specifically for her because he wanted more than "friendship". I'm still hopeful that he will wise up and realize that Volume 3 is something he will need to do to complete the story and that his own vanity will propel him to do so.

It took me a long time to realize that Kill Bill is a rampage happening through a movie theater.  Each of the DIVAS has basically gone into a different movie (as if they are actors), and the Bride is jumping from screen to screen-- and basically every genre-- in order to track them down and kill them.

The thing you bring up about directors getting further away from the things that got them noticed, when they were unknown they had little resources to make their flicks, ergo they had to rely more strongly on certain things like heavy dialogue and so on than they do now that they have budgets.  I certainly don't think Tarantino has slipped at all-- in fact, Kill Bill seems like the first movie in a series that seems like the thing he was BORN to make.  At least, that's how I see it.

The decision to not make Volume 3 is personal and has everything to do with Uma. Where am I getting this information? From him, based on the known fact that his biggest fear is becoming a hack that 98% of all filmmakers one day find themselves in. If you haven't seen his interview with Charlie Rose, he goes into great detail about Directors he admired and then just falling off the cliff and how he doesn't want to go down that road. This is why I still hold out hope that his vanity will kick in and that he will swallow whatever pride he has about Uma and make the 3rd Installment. If he doesn't make KB3, there will be a huge hole in his filmography and that would be worst than being the hack he fears of becoming one day. I don't think it would sit well with him when film students start posing the "what if" with regards to poor decisions he makes about movies he makes.....and doesn't make. As you said, he is born to make this type of genre film, more specifically....Kill Bill 3.

Well, what was left unsaid with the "Whole Bloody" thing?  Outside of the little girl after the Vivica A Fox fight, what more territory could you REALLY go into?

And besides, I think Tarantino has grown as a director so much so since coming up with KB that a new one, by the time he made it, wouldn't fit in, it would stick out like the fourth Indiana Jones movie.

Well QT basically set it up what KB3 would be when Beatrix (The Bride) is addressing the kid, Nikki (Ambrosia Kelley). That one day she will seek her out to avenge the killing of her mother Vernita Green. This is a great set up for what Volume 3 would be. The reason why Tarantino wanted to wait 10 years is because he wanted the actress that played Nikki to reprise her role. I thought that was an awesome choice and decision on the part of Tarantino. What other filmmaker out there would have the patience and the balls to delay a movie that long for artistic choices, rather than cashing in on how hot Kill Bill was at the time? Not many....actually, no one else has the balls to do something like that. That's why I was pumped for KB3. I wanted to see his artistic vision fulfilled. Saying KB3 is nothing more than Indy 4 isn't fair. Lucas, Spielberg and Ford were cashing in the paycheck. KB3 is seeing a vision that Tarantino thought of 10 years ago coming to its natural conclusion.

I'm not saying the motivation of KB3 and IJ4 would be the same, I'm saying that the visual and stylistic difference between KB1+2 to 3 would be very similar to the visual difference between IJ3 + 4.  Quentin Tarantino couldn't make a movie like he did in 2003 because he's not the same person or artist that he was in 2003.  And to be fair, he could do a story about Nikki but it shouldn't BE Kill Bill 3, it should be a spin-off or independently-identified flick to avoid that comparison.  And while he may want to do the movie and have the actress (which I DO think is cool), there's no guarantee that girl would be any good in the role.
