My Jodie Foster marathon concludes with what is one of her most famous roles in The Silence of the Lambs. She was awesome in this as Clarice Starling. Personally I think her crown jewel was definitely The Accused. Sadly, my Library branches don't even have a single copy. Anyway, back to Lambs. The movie is really a product of all it's parts coming together to give us one chilling and very frightening movie. This type of Horror movie is far more scarier than any amount of Slasher film like Elm Street, Friday The 13th or Halloween movies you can come up with. Why? Well, with those movies I just mentioned, the main character for all intents and purposes are cartoon characters. So it's hard to take a character like that seriously. But you get a character like Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) who is grounded in reality and you have one seriously whacked out horror flick because we know there are people out there just like that which makes it even more scarier. Hopkins, with so very little screen time in this one, left such a lasting image in his portrayal, OWNED this. Was there any doubt that he wouldn't win Best Actor? Swoosh! Nothing but net!

I wasn't shocked at all when watching the Oscars that year that it would win for Best Picture, Actor, Actress, Director and Original Screenplay. Like I said, the sum of its parts really delivered something extraordinary. Jonathan Demme as did Ted Tally. And you can't forget Ted Levine as Buffalo Bill. No matter how many things I have seen Levine in since the movie came out, the first thing I say to myself when I see him is "Buffalo Bill". Scary dude. I hold the movie up there with some of the greatest of all time. Hell, I double-dipped in the DVD. First with the Criterion Collection Edition and then again as a Box Set that also came with Hannibal. I highly recommend this as a Rent for sure. But if you're a fan or movies, this definitely belongs in your personal library.
