The Terminator: Special Edition

Trailer

You're Terminated, f ucker! For me, this is the entire movie in a nutshell. The entire movie is leading up to this very moment which is like the ultimate release after being chased for 1 hour and 44 minutes. I can't tell you how satisfied I feel as a movie goer in those few seconds when Sarah Conner (Linda Hamilton) fulfills her destiny by laying waste to an unstoppable machine. What's funny is that I was late to the Terminator party. It was maybe a year after it's release before I caught it on HBO and from that moment on, I literally became a James Cameron fan boy. I was so gung-ho for this film that I watched it endlessly. Even funnier is that I never once even thought about a sequel. I just figured that was it. Time to rewind and watch it again....and again.

Watching this tonight (and pretty much every time since that fateful day), this movie, in the wrong directors hand could have turned out to be a horrible, cheesy, C-Movie because of it's "simple plot". But in the hands of Cameron, what you get is some pretty cool set pieces, Special FX that don't suck, superb editing and music and characters that you absolutely care about. Michael Biehn was perfectly cast as Kyle Reese and of course the big man Arnold Schwarzenegger as the ultimate killing machine.

If there is one gripe to be found in the movie for me, it's the stock sound FX that is used for Reese's shotgun. It's horrible. Listen to the shotgun when it's fired, and you will immediately recognize the same stock sound fx from tons of TV shows from the 70's and 80's. It never sounded right in those shows and it just sticks out like a sore thumb in the movie. The same can be said about Terminator's hand gun as well, which uses the same stock sound FX. Other than that, it's a thrill ride not to be missed,

I own it. I watch it all the time. Of course I recommend this as a Buy.

The DVD cover that is in this post is not the cover of what I own. I have the Special Edition DVD that has that funky cover that you turn to move the image. I couldn't find a decent scan of that anywhere online, so I went with the standard cover in it's place.

I can find very little wrong with The Terminator. It’s one of those rare sci-fi movies that just gets it right. I do see a little aging with the movie, but dayum, it’s almost 30 years old. I remember when this came out. On the other hand sci-fi was handled sloppy. There have been directors that have given great respect to the genre, but it was rare. Terminator was one of those instant classics.

I had missed it at the theater, but jumped on it when it came out on VHS.

My Sarah Connor Chronicles marathon may have come to an end yesterday. But that doesn't mean I'm ready to stop watching the story unfold. Watching Terminator tonight, I just noticed something that I have NEVER picked up on until now. How the f*ck is it that I never saw that William Wisher was in this? I know his part very well in T2....but not in Terminator.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Didn't Want to Say “I’ll Be Back” in “The Terminator” (2015)

Cool story. Funny. Never heard of this one before.
