The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008)

Trailer

I'm a huge fan of the series, as well as it's spin off The Lone Gunmen. So I am always open to seeing what Chris Carter can come up with when it comes to movies and keeping the franchise moving forward. I'm 3 years late to this party because I didn't hear anything postive about The X-Files: I Want to Believe, so my expectations here were pretty low. As a continuation from the series itself, this movie can be looked on as an Epic Fail. But if you were to watch it with no prior knowledge of the characters and the back story, it can come across as being a by-the-book detective story in which Mulder and Scully race against time to find a couple of kidnapped women about to literally lose their heads, which was just okay for me.

If you are a fan of The X Files then you will surely be disappointed with this installment. The series can be boiled down to either Monsters-Of-The-Week or Mythologies regarding Aliens. I Want To Believe has neither. It was cool to see both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson back together on screen again. Even Mitch Pileggi has a small cameo. But even they couldn't really make this one for the ages.

There is talk of a 3rd Installment and it's been hinted at that it will be base on the Mythology of the show. Yay! This would be the only way I would even consider coming back for more. Hopefully Chris Carter will finally give us long suffering fans some legitimate answers and tie up the loose ends that the series finale did not do. I need closure on Mulder and Scully once and for all.

This is a Rent for fans and non-fans of the series.

I was disappointed when these movies came out. I just thought the studio's were in it for the money, especially the first one, because, dayum, the series was still on TV. WTF.

And to me both the movies seemed like extensions of the show, so the whole punching it up a notch to make a 'movie' fell flat for me.

Although Fight The Future wasn't the best, I actually preferred that one over I Want To Believe because it felt more in line with what the series had already established, even though we got no answers in that one as they had promised and hype it up that it would have.
