Season 4 has a lot of good things going for it, but no matter how many times I've watched this season, the first half has always felt 'off'. With the Strike Team officially disbanded, things just aren't the same as they were the first three seasons and the biggest reason is Shane. He has been transferred and is doing his own thing. Basically he is trying to be '
Vic Mackey', but getting himself into deep sh*t in the process. The other thing that I didn't care for was
David Aceveda story arc of where he turns to beating the sh*t out of a hooker as a way of working through his issues. It just didn't work as a legitimate scenario for the character at all. The season may have started off slow, but it finishes with flying colors. The second half of the season is where the muscle starts to flex itself once the team is back together. But that's not the only reason why it ends strongly. All the loose ends of the entire season arc come together at the end and it's extremely satisfying to watch.
There are 3 new editions to the cast with
Michael Pena playing
Army,
Anthony Anderson who plays King Drug Pin
Antwon Mitchell and
Glenn Close who plays new Captain
Monica Rawlings. This season has always been one that seems to divide a lot of Shield fans and I can understand why since I already mentioned it about the first half of the season. But I absolutely think the second half more than makes up for it and a lot of it has to do with both
Anderson and
Close who are both powerhouse forces of nature in their roles here. There are so many incredible scenes that would leave any actor begging to take part. Take your pick of what are the best:
Rawlings making
Antwon Mitchell cry during interrogation. Shane's face to face interrogation against
Antwon Mitchell. They may have wrapped up their arcs for the season, but they leave a pretty big one left open that will anchor all of
Season 5 in a way that can't be missed. Looking forward to watching
Season 5 again. As for
Season 4, definitely worth a
Rent. For me, it will always be a
Buy just to see
Glenn Close and
Michael Chiklis sharing screen time together.
