There is a prime example of why I don't think anyone can do what Dustin does so well in the movie. If you check out the "montage" sequence when he / she is up on the farm, sharing time with Jessica Lange and Charles Durning's characters, just look at the of depth of emotion that Dustin is able to project to the audience, done completely with looks and small subtle, nuance of body movements and reactions to what is happening around him. It's the longing looks he gives to what is basically the love of his life. It's the way he holds and then embraces the baby. And keep in mind, this is a montage that has a song playing on top of it. There is no dialogue whatsoever and that's why I think what he did was simply brilliant. It's pantomime at its best.

And when you ask "Who could do a remake or interpretation", my mind immediately goes to this scene and I come up with no one being able to do it.
