Even though this is part of the
Toy Box Set, which I have, I will split it up so that
Toy Story and
Toy Story 2 can be rated on it's own merit, rather than the Set itself. As for
Toy Story, it's just an amazing feat in computer generated imagery. I'm currently reading
Steve Jobs and in the middle of his Pixar years that prompted me to bust this out again. Even though
Pixar has outdone itself with each successive movie that's come after as far as technology and storytelling goes, this one still holds up rather well. Actually, for me, it's still the standard that I judge all movies, animated or not.
Take away all the bells and whistles and imagery of
Toy Story and what you have at it's core is a kick ass story with heart. This is an amazing film with a great story to tell and characters and
John Lassester became a Hollywood player with this. I give him all the props for what he and his crew at
Pixar created here. But we can't forget the 2 people who's voices brought this film to life.
Tom Hanks (Woody) and
Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear) OWNED it and gave such an amazing and memorable performance for their respective characters. I truly believe that even with all the whizbang visuals, without these two, the film and it's soul would have made for a far lesser film.
This is a definite
Buy, just for the movie alone. But you owe it to yourself to pick up the
Toy Box Set, which comes with both
Toy Story and
Toy Story 2 along with a 3rd Disc devoted entirely to Bonus supplements.
