Yes Man

Trailer

I grabbed a couple of Jim Carrey movies today from the Library and even though I knew that Yes Man existed, I knew absolutely nothing about it. Never even saw the Trailer when this came out a few years ago. Straight up, this isn't one of Jim's better films. It's not that it's a bad flick, it's just 'okay' for me. The plot skews a little too close to that of Liar Liar in that the main character has to suddenly change his way to have a more meaningful life. The concept of the film does make you think a bit about how people in general tend to waste their lives because they settle into their own little world and just don't make the effort to get out there and experience new things or meet new people.

My problem with the concept is that even though he is being asked to say 'Yes' to everything and it does open doors for him, it comes at the expense of becoming a doormat. There are better ways to go about opening yourself up to new things and they don't involve bending over and taking it up the a$$. At least Terrance Stamp's character addresses this at the end of the film. So it's not like the writers were completely oblivious to this major issue that keeps the movie stuck in average-land. With that said, there are some very 'laugh out loud' moments to be found in the movie. But that's all they are for me. Just classic Jim Carrey moments where the plot sets up the sight gag and for him to do his thang. But it's definitely worth a Rent if you want some belly laughs. Just don't expect much in the way of a compelling story and certainly not one on par with Liar Liar.

Bonus points for having Zooey Deschanel as the love interest, even if the age difference between her and Carrey is a whopping 20 years. Bradley Cooper, Danny Masterson, Luis Guzman and Molly Sims have small roles as well.

Well, maybe caps of that weird seaweed dress thing Zooey was dressed in when she did the concert, the only thing I remember about the movie.

I thought her concert, especially her "lyrics" was kick ass awesome and had me laughing a good chunk of the time. I love her in everything.

I put those on my iPod ages ago, though I keep forgetting to change the album art to the paint splatter title from the end of the movie).

Yeah, the movie though... just blah.  Nothing memorable about it (although I do hear Jim Carrey yell "he must be the most popular homeless guy in the WORLD!" in my head every now and then).  Not really even remotely tempted to revisit this one.  I will say that it HAS made me consider saying yes first when someone tries to get me to do something, so... I GUESS the movie did whatever it was intended to do.

But Zooey...  rowr.  Wish I had better res pics of these.

I'm spoiled by HD... not that I saw this in HD.

I wanna know what that arm pumping thing is called, I REALLY should know by now what all these dance moves are called.  If they are called anything.
