Trumbo

Trailer

Bryan Cranston continues to astound with his ability to inhabit characters and give them life in ways that other actors would probably ham it up and in Trumbo he delivers yet again. I knew the name of  Dalton Trumbo, but I definitely didn't know his story and it's pretty riveting in how it all plays out. The fact that this is a true story makes it even more unbelievable. It's only a story that Hollywood could concoct which is pretty damn ironic. In a nutshell, for those that are in the dark as I was, Trumbo is part of a clique of Screenwriters who were blacklisted for their ties to Communism during the 1950's. As fascinating as this part of the movie is, it's not until after Trumbo has done his time and tries to continue working in the very establishment that banned him. There is something poetic in his ability to game the system by writing under pseudonyms and become even more of a threat and revered for penning 2 Oscar winning films for Roman Holiday and The Brave One. And there's that little film called Spartacus that will forever be part of his legend. If you are a fan of Bio-pics like this or just want to see a master craftsman like Cranston strutting his stuff, this is the movie to check out. Highly recommended. Along with Cranston, the movie is stacked with some other great actors as well: Diane Lane, Helen Mirren, Louis C.K., Elle Fanning, John Goodman and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Watched this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Cranston definitely demanded attention to his character.

The thing I was blown away about was those individuals freely expressing they were in fact communists. I've always thought it was period of time some people just blamed some other people of communism blindly.

I really liked how they approached representing some of the celebrities. Great job there.

Fascinating story.
