War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)

Trailer

Simply put, War for the Planet of the Apes is the best installment of the Planet of the Apes Reboot. I'm so glad that I managed to get to watching this one on the final day of 2017 because this is without a doubt the absolute Best Film this year. I don't have to see any other films that were released this year to make this statement. The series as a whole has always been a marvel to watch, especially of Andy Serkis who delivered another Oscar worthy performance. You know you are going to get his A-Game every time, but to see him elevate and surpass what he has already done is just breathtaking. Along with incredible performances by everyone involved, the story itself was very good and very timely and will make you think twice about what is happening as the film plays out.

Along with the likes of Caesar, Maurice and Rocket, we get the addition of two new characters: Bad Ape as played by the hilarious Steven Zahn and Amiah Miller who plays the Mute Girl, Nova. Both of their performances delivered in ways I wasn't expecting. Bad Ape is there for comedic levity in what is a very serious movie. And let me tell you, you will appreciate having him around to break the tension. He has a few...more than a handful of scenes that will have you busting out loud laughing. And for Mute Girl, she will be the key to keeping Caesar from becoming the thing he despises most...a soulless human that knows only violence and war. She is the humanity that he ironically enough is clinging to.

I can't say enough good things about this movie. On more than a few occasions the film brought tears to my eyes either through a performance or the story that was unfolding before me throughout the flick. The Third Act itself is one of the most thrilling things I've seen in a movie in a long long time. This brings to close the Trilogy and honestly, I don't want them to move forward. Leave it at 3...go out with a bang and solidify itself as one of the best Trilogies of any series to date. Yes, they can conceivably continue onward...but I rather they not. I highly recommend this as a Buy. I'm waiting for the eventual Box Set (if it's not already out) because THIS is what I want. 10 Stars out of 10.
