WarGames (1983)

Trailer

WarGames is a movie that I have watched countless times since the day it came out. I remember the first time I went to see this in the theater and thinking how super cool and scary this was. Cool because a regular kid with a computer could do stuff like this. Scary because World War III could be started by just any kid with a computer. Disregarding the cool factor here, the script and story was pretty tight and kept you in the thick of it from start to finish. There isn't one wasted second here as you get totally sucked into the movie.

It's funny how each time I have watched this over the years as technology has continued to advance in how dated the stuff in the film looks. But even with that, it never loses it's appeal and seems to get better each time I watch it. I think a lot of it has to do with not just the actors, but the fact that now, today, this is a very relevant movie. This sh*t can still happen, which makes the hair on my neck stand up. Matthew Broderick, Dabney Coleman, John Wood and Alley Sheedy make this a fun, awesome movie.

This is a must-Buy!!!!!

PS
I had the hots for Alley when this came out. Still do. Yummy.

PPS
Shortly after seeing this movie, I begged my Mom for a computer for Xmas. I got a bike instead. How am I suppose to change my grades with a bike?

I'm going to have to watch this film again. It's been at least 20+ years.
I remember loving it when it first came out, but the dated material may change my mind.

I forgot to point out some other awesome sh*t about WarGames. I love the Main Theme that plays out at the end of the credits. It always gets stuck in my head after the fact. I could listen to that all day long. Also, the sound fx for Joshua/computer is awesome too!!! Even its voice.

"How about a nice game of chess?"

"The only winning move is not to play"

AWESOME!!

I'm such a fan boy of this movie. Maybe I should watch it again! It's been less than a day already. Ha.

Oh sh*t!!! September 11, 2011 was the LAST time I watched War Games! Time has flown at warp speed. I figured it had been a year and a half max since then. Anyway, I had been itching to revisit War Games about 5 months ago for no particular reason other than I wanted to watch it again. Then the Sony Hack Scandal happened and it made watching this even more of a priority. And then the whole thing with The Interview happened and suddenly War Games became a "get your ass in gear and watch this sum b*tch now", even though they have nothing in common with each other, other than hacking. Just got finished with War Games and I STILL love the movie, which flew by at warp speed as well. Ya know what, every time it gets to the end where Joshua is playing Tic-Tac-Toe and learning from the game and then "launching" the missile, I still hold my breath the entire time. Anyone that digs War Games should definitely check out Ghost In The Wires: My Adventures as the World's Most Wanted Hacker . Fantastic read and pairs up nicely with the movie.

My talking about Ally Sheedy didn't have anything to do with it, did it?  (I made a note to myself to draw Ally as she appears in the flick, I might do that during the Twilight Zone marathon on New Years).

I don't remember the last time I saw WarGames, actually... probably the last time it expired.  Maybe it'll come back in January.

Just a nice coincidence. I decided this afternoon that I would be watching War Games. If anything, I was actually tempted to watch The Breakfast Club when you mentioned it. I may do that one tomorrow as its been a while since the last time I watched it.

I just watched it again a few hours ago (I wanted to get caps-- the ones I used from some site weren't nearly enough).  And it gave me the chance to double check some of the things I proposed while toying with the idea of a sequel.  Definitely watch it when you want, you know there's no reason not to!

Any chance you can add additional Screencaps to the thread of scenes not already posted? Would be greatly appreciated. I posted a good chunk of caps, but it still feels like it's missing a lot. Ack!

I'd have to go through all of them... or I can just try to find the link to the original zip I found, there were about 3,000 in there

Yeah, and amazingly, it wasn't enough for me... you can see why I'm running out of hard drive space.
