Wayne's World

Trailer

Like most SNL skits, they are nearly impossible to turn into a credible movie, let alone a film franchise. A Night at the Roxbury anyone? Exactly. Wayne's World really doesn't expand beyond that skit mentality as it's basically 90 minutes of skits tied together to make a movie. The thing is, it's actually one of the better films relying on the lovable characters known as Wayne (Mike Meyers) and Garth (Dana Carvey) to give us a plausible story, as thin as it may be. If you like the skits and / or the actors, you are bound to enjoy this one...that is if you don't take it serious. And why would you? It's from SNL.

The jokes, as cheesy as they may be, still works for me. But it's the 'bad' jokes that Wayne and Garth laugh at after telling them that always has me grinning from ear to ear. At least they were in on the joke when they said it. Literally. Definitely worth a Rent. Rob Lowe and Tia Carrere also co-star. Keep an eye out for a cameos by Chris Farley, Robert Patrick and Alice Cooper.

Be sure to check out the bonus stuff on the DVD, namely Extreme Close-up which has the key players (Mike, Dana and Rob) along with Director Penelope Spheeris reminiscing about what it was like to work on the movie. Some really great behind the scenes stories. I enjoyed this look-back a lot.

You know, I never check back on these threads to see if those screencaps ever actually come up.

There was some secret I read to making a movie based on a skit work but I can't remember what it was.  I think with Wayne's World, it helps that the characters are also an attitude that they're just projecting into places that they couldn't do in the skit.  This movie was on TV a month or so ago but I didn't really pay attention, I do notice they remove the "little, yellow, different" bit EVERY TIME on ANY CHANNEL.

Don't know if you watch Modern Family, but it's strange to see Ed O'Neill in this movie now.  He looks so young and different.

Oh, and I KNOW I saw the movie where they got the ninja training shot from, it's from an actual movie and I recognized it IMMEDIATELY, but now I don't know what it was.

I know they'e talking about a third one, but the closest thing I've seen to a third Wayne's World was Ali G Indahouse, you may disagree with that but for me, that flick scratches the same itch for me (and incidentally, "St Trinian's" scratches the "Addams Family" movie itch).

I've never seen this. Then again those SNL skits were after my time. From what little I've seen, I'm not driven to check this out

Ed looks like a teenager in this one. Ha. Kinda. Not really. You know what I mean.

Rewatching this movie, am I crazy or is the guy who inspects their car the drug addict they picked up the night before?  Like he's a totally different person in the day than at night?

I do like that the first flick is casually showing money issues, Wayne and Garth fishing their pockets to make a bill, having rent parties and so on, it's a nice little touch of realism.

BTW, can you NOT think of Dana Carvey when you see Alex Albrecht host a show?

Never made the connection between the two.

It must be a combination of his smile and his voice, I'm not saying it's good or bad, but something about one reminds me of the other.
