Listening to movies on my iPod while cleaning.  It's something I haven't done since I was a kid with movies on cassette tapes (the poor man's VHS), but it's proving to be interesting to see how much is just there in the dialogue and sound effects.  It's really hammering home the idea of every character needing their own distinct voice, how scenes flow together and so on.  I like that it's forcing me to use my least reliable sense.

The first I listened to was "A Mighty Wind," which I haven't heard forever.  Outside of being dang funny (and yes, you can tell every time a different character chimes in), I love that they wrote all the music that's in there... and I'm still genuinely touched by the song that Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara sing together at the end.

This was the first Christopher Guest movie I'd ever seen (Spinal Tap was out of print at the time) and I didn't get what the movie would be but my dad dragged me there telling me "trust me, you'll like this" and he was totally right.  And of course, my sister and I to this day will start shouting out Fred Willard lines to each other.  The best part about that is that I was explaining what this movie was to my stepbrother John and when I got to talking about Fred's character, John just went "is THAT what that's from?  Cause she does that to me ALL the time!"

Are these "mix tapes" of your favorite movies that you put together or where they released in audio-only format?

I'll take the fifth on that.  And I'll also refrain from commenting on why I'm listening to movies instead of, you know, an actual AUDIObook of which I have several I need to actually listen to.

It's more for punctuating a joke or statement. So, definitely good. Think along the lines of a Rim shot.

Alright, cool.  Just always immediately presume that Im being judged.

These movies-on-iPod are great because I can go through 'em so much quicker since I don't have to pause 'em to get water or Pomegranate juice or use the bathroom or do the laundry or anything.  Just when I have to vaccuum (which I'm doing intermittently).  One listened to Bicentennial Man (see what one did there?) and now I'm halfway through City Slickers II.  I wanted to listen to Anchorman but the audio was too soft.

"Pretty Woman" right now.  Still very cute, though funny enough listening to it, the movie has a very "80s" soundtrack to it even though all we remember from the music is Roy Orbison, as if that song played EVERY time music came on.

Okay, my ears must be better than I thought, I actually managed to recognize Hector Elizondo's voice.

Mind blown that Charles Grodin was considered for Edward.  All I'm picturing now is a zany movie with his character from "Clifford" dealing with all this madcap happening (oh, and can you imagine Jennifer Connelly as Vivian?  That'd have been something too)

This is actually really reminding me of this Korean soap I watched called "Lie To Me," where a clutsy but lovable Cultural Ministry official pretends to be the girlfriend of the manager of this expensive hotel, it had that same feel to it, except they didn't care for each other for a good large chunk of the series.  And they never needed to pretend the part at the same time, so she needs him when he doesn't need her and visa versa.  And everyone else keeps trying to push them together.  Apparently pretending to be married is a real common trope in asian stories cause it happens CONSTANTLY.

Killing Them Softly

I'm not going to rate this because quite frankly I quit watching after 30 minutes.... and Brad Pitt hadn't even entered the picture yet. All I saw were two low life thugs planning a to rob some guys. Seen this kind of stuff a million times before. Boring. Oh and Ray Liotta doing exactly what he does in every film.

I found Killing Them Softly to slow and boring to waste any time with. I certainly did not care about any of the characters.

I still have a long wait to go before I get my copy of Killing Them Softly from the library. I think I'm around 54th in line which translate to about 2 months and some change. Either you are quick on the draw to reserve your copies (because you get them almost immediately) or you have no people going to your library. No matter how fast I click on the New Release button for DVDs, I still end up in the hundreds. If I'm in the 200s are higher, I don't even bother.

No interest in seeing this movie.  Or World War Z, for that matter.  I miss cool Brad Pitt... what's the last cool Brad Pitt movie that came out?

Listening to an audiobook now that's about 20+ hours long, so no movies for me today and some of tomorrow.  Though I am going to re-see "Into Darkness" with my sister in a few hours.  Curious to see what she thinks about it.

Ya, I pretty much stay on top of the releases. I check every day.

The groaner for me is people are starting to figure things out. Once available the wait list climbs pretty fast. I try to get in within the first day or two. If it's in the hundreds, I just say forget and hope I somehow run across it.

I like Pitt. He's somewhat reliable for entertainment. I wouldn't mind seeing Z when it comes out. I am hearing they altered it from the book dramatically. Not that I've read the book, but seems when you alter a story, it can go in several directions.
