I've heard nothing but bad things about this. Even if it got good word of mouth, I'm still sticking with the original. Now, I just have to find my copy and watch it. Been long time too. Bah!!

Margin Call

OK, I was honestly expecting better. Right time for this reflecting the mortgage disaster of late. Excellent cast. Not one bad player in this story. The first half is pretty interesting and thankfully they balance nicely what could have been mind numbing accounting and financial explanations to layman's terms the audience could grasp.

The second half just gets very melodramatic and slows down quite a bit. The ending just ****ed me off.
Spoiler (hover to show)

I'll say rent. I probably won't watch this again.

Not gonna click on the spoiler, but is this anything like Glengarry Glen Ross in style and tone? The cover art makes me think it is.

Dunno... never saw it.

Most of the film is on two different floors of a business. Nothing exceptional to the tone.

Drive

Here we go again. Apparently not seeing what a lot of other folks are saying. Consistently hearing good things about Drive. In fact being the best movie of 2011. I'm not sure what I watched but it didn't seem anywhere near the hype surrounding it.

Drive is an extremely slow, brooding movie with lots of artsy filmography. Lots of scenes of people staring... at each other... into space. Ryan Gosling says about 12 words in the whole movie. There is some driving, but this mostly about some bad people in a low on the ladder mob scenario.

I highly doubt I would ever watch this slow ass movie again. I wanted to like it, but dayum, it just did absolutely nothing for me.

Now I'm conflicted about checking out Drive. All I've heard about this is that it's so good this and so good that. Now I don't know what to expect.

The Big Year

It took exactly 15 minutes for me to turn this turd off. And I'm being generous. I would have turned it off sooner, but hoping like hell, it would improve.

First the casting makes zero sense. The Story even less... bird watching? Really. Maybe it had more, but I was not going to suffer through more time hoping for the best.

I thought the Trailer pretty much summed up how bad this one would be. I had no desire to see this one.

You probably should check it out. Let us know what you think of it. I was just not feeling it... It's just my take on it. Several folks I know really enjoyed it.

I honestly cannot stand those movies that have long shots of people just contemplating stuff, which this has plenty of.

Contagion

This looked good in the trailer and so, the movie delivered. This is not an apocalypse, but it sure feels like it. They’ve presented a pandemic in a very real way and it’s scary. Contagion is not an action movie. The focus is on some key people, their perspective and high level view on what they think people will do when faced with such a dire situation. Contagion makes you think. For me it’s a reminder how delicate our lives are and that such a small thing has the potential for a major and life altering impact. I think this movie will even make you think twice when you’re coughing. While watching the movie I had to cough once and it made me think.

In Time

This is science fiction and it immediately puts you in the future and take a huge leap in believability. That’s what science fiction does, until it becomes true, then its non-fiction. Transaction of money has been replaced by time. That’s right. People are assigned amounts of time that they will live. When time zero’s out, you’re dead. People earn and lose time. A phone call is 1 minute of your life time taken away. Coffee is 3 minutes. Etc. The other thing is when the time standard kicks in, that’s what you will look like for the rest of your life. People don’t age. Lot's of plot holes. Ignore them and just run with it... OK

But you can still die. You are not immortal.

That’s just the foundation of the movie. The conflict is between the classes of people. Some have massive amounts of time – The rich. They potentially could live for centuries or forever. They have the good life. Justin Timberlake is on the other side of the tracks and must beg borrow and steal to find his time that constantly is running out. One lucky day and man who has had enough of life gives him all his life. Apparently some bad guys did not like that transaction and movie starts to move along with Timberlake traveling to the good life and finding out what it really means to control time like some people can do. I find the movie compelling and for me it makes me think of today with the power of the rich and what they do with it.
