A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas

Very much a throw away movie. Not good... not bad. They promoted the 3D thing pretty heavily throughout. I thought it just screamed 'Look At Me". Kind of distracting. Not that I care, but saw more 'penises' than a p orn flick. It was kinda funny though. I just think the Harold and Kumar movies have long lost their bite. The first was good, the second less and this one was luke warm.

It's worth a dollar rent... or free.

Footloose (2011)

I'll have to admit, this is one of the few movies I thought could use a remake. We really enjoyed this flick. Never a dull moment. It's not the Godfather, but you will be entertained from the beginning to end. The story is updated to reflect today's generation. Otherwise the story is very close in scene stealing from the original. Still, the music, the characters, all made up for a fun night of movie watching.

Highly recommend.

I never in a million years would have thought you'd give the remake 4 stars. Although I like the original, this one was and still is low on my list of things to watch. Eventually I will get around to it, but it's really low as far as priority is concerned.

Immortals

I have always been a fan of mythology. Immortals has the eye candy look of 300 and the Clash of The Titans story telling. I enjoyed it despite a the very basic and some would say, thin plot. But the plot is loaded with history of myth. Several scenes look reminiscently familiar from the Hercules movies I use to watch.

The stylized fights and killing are really a beauty to behold. Not the killing, but what's presented on the screen. Over the top kick ass fighting. The last scene looked incredibly brutal. I know it's actors but damn, they are going through some physical routines.

The making of reveals so much more about myth which makes the movie that more deep.

I'll be watching this again. There is so much going on, it's hard to catch it all.

Young Adult

I wasn’t sure what to expect out of Young Adult. I remember when it came to the theaters the trailer had an odd vibe about it. Not funny but intriguing perhaps? Then right before putting this in I check rottentomatoes and was surprised again. Critics loved it, while the general population was mostly luke warm.

Well, after sitting through Young Adult, I understand both my hesitation with a weird vibe trailer and like/dislike of the viewers. I did not like most of this movie. It’s very uncomfortable to watch what appears to be a psychotic woman going through a slow meltdown. Everyone including her new found bud Patton Oswalt, who by the way was perfectly cast here, watch as this women takes each step towards the cliff. Good acting, but not a story I would want to revisit. Just leaves a nasty taste in my mouth.

Not sure about recommending it. Charlize Theron is beautiful and ugly at the same time. Fantastic actor, but the story told is not enjoyable at all and mostly very slow.

The Three Musketeers (2011)

Going in I knew it was stylized. It looked like an over the top Matrix/Resident Evil styling of the classic story. Well, yes it was. The photography and camera perspectives were absolutely gorgeous. The scenes were filled with texture and detail. Too bad the story and especially the dialog would only be appealing to little kids. This clearly was not for adults and actually excruciating. I gave it half hour before I couldn’t take anymore. And dayum, it had Milla Jovovich. Even then it was very hard to believe she bought into this. I can’t even begin to recommend this.

I usually don't' comment on covers, but c'mon... this is hideous!!!

Inkubus

Oh good gawd. As I grow older I guess my tolerance for subversive guilty pleasure SyFy bad movies is waning. This was just plain stupid. And when I say stupid I don’t mean trashy, I mean boring. Very little happens. It stars Robert Englund which like a Dean Cain or a Clint Howard flick is an immediate flag that this is low budget and probably a bad sad movie. This only took 20 minutes to realize I had to shut it off before it wasted my brain.

Duh, can’t recommend this.

My Week with Marilyn

So by this time I sat through a lot of crap. My Week with Marilyn is a class movie. It had style and oozed the feelings of those old time movies with interesting directors and stars as the story. Midnight in Paris by Woody Allen captured this mood earlier this year and was fun to watch, probably because of the Twilight Zone story telling. MWWM was nothing extrodinary except for Marilyn  Monroe’s difficulties of acting and being a movie star. It’s just I was not in the mood to watch this kind of movie. I may come back to it sometime and hopefully appreciate it more. I would recommend this if your into nostalgia and period movies.

My Week with Marilyn

I definitely want to see this one. It's in my Queue. I'm kinda disappointed at the average rating since I have high expectations for this one. Like you said, you weren't in the right frame of mind when you watched this, so I'm gonna go with that.

The Descendants

We got to see another great film this week. Personally it was very emotional for me. I don't want to give anything away, but dayum this is a roller coaster of emotions and feelings running through this flick. Get through the first 30 minutes and then it really kicks in. This is one of those movies I am so glad I got to see, but doubt, uh maybe, ever watch again. Like I said, it hits to close to home.

Highly recommend checking The Descendants out.

The Dead

Like vampires, Zombie flicks have eeked out every kind of iteration theme they can think of. The Dead is actually going back to the first ever zombies. I'm not talking George Romero. I'm talking White Zombie.

It doesn't get any simpler in the Dead. Everyone for the most part is dead and walking... slowly and this follows two men going from point A to Point B in Africa. Very little talking. People may be taken back by the very slow moving zombie perspective, but what makes this interesting is that tension builds and there SO MANY always around. There is no where to hide in the African country. Also, you start to realize really quick about handling your food, water and ammo.

I liked The Dead. It's not the high power, action packed that we've been use to in recent years, but it is very gory and bloody.
