The Woman In Black

Hammer Studio's was founded in 1939 but did not really create until the 1950's, producing some very classic and iconic Gothic films. Some horror. They ceased production around the 1980's. Recently they restarted with various backing, with full intent to recapture what made them so successful.
The Woman in Black is not the first film by Hammer. Actually it's the 5th, but by far the most successful. I think Daniel Radcliff helped in associating a star to these relatively unknown films. Hammer produced 4 others since 2008. I've seen one, Wake Wood, but was not impressed.
The Woman In Black is dripping with long forgotten creepiness. It builds so wonderfully to some very chilling moments. I counted three times, scenes that ran a chill through me and my hair stood up. It just sucked me in so well. The movie is rich with black, whites and shadows. With crystal clear colors that paint each scene with a mood. Daniel Radcliff's character is rather laid back but with the help of Cirian Hinds as his accomplish to stop the Woman In Black, for unknown reasons, but evident in his actions.
I think Woman In Black does a great job of taking the gothic feel and updating current viewers expectations. The era is the early 1900's but the characters would be perfectly fine in today's world.
