[REC] 3; Genesis

[REC] 3 Genesis is the unimaginative name of the obvious sequel to the Spanish horror franchise REC. The original REC had some very fresh ideas. While it did feel like many video games with the dimly lit and claustrophobic hallways and rooms, the raw footage with no named people really amped up the horror and scare points. The first sequel, which is overlaps the first movie by minutes, takes the adventure in a completely different arena with an airplane and airport.

[REC] 3 Genesis just completely jumps the rails in many respects. The director apparently said, let’s try humor. It worked for Shaun of the Dead.

Hey, let’s also through some religion into the mix. See, the people who just turned into zombies are really Satan’s children. That’s right. That’s not Uncle Floyd having a bad day. That’s really Beelzebub in Uncle’s skin. Hear me out. It makes sense doesn’t it?

Not...

… the gore and blood still fill the screen, but so does the nonsense. I’m pretty sure the core idea was to take this petite woman on her wedding day and turn her into a chain saw warrior. In her wedding dress of course. Start filming now and we’ll build a story around it.

The only good part is they thankfully dropped the found footage angle. It started off that way and was quite stomach churning, but ended once the zombie’s broke out.

It’s not horrible, it just doesn’t fit in with the previous two. And you could walk away for a bit, come back and still know what happened.

Rock Of Ages

Wow, that's 2 hours of my life I'll never get back. That See-ucked major dong. Rock of Ages is a High School Muscial, I guess for adults, because all the music is from the 80's. I would say I loved the music, but the musical just butchered the songs. I'm not a real fan of watching celebrities lip sync karaoke style old classic rock songs.

The ridiculous story produced some of the more horrible lines ever. Alex Baldwin, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti all had vampy over the top chacracters that just made me squirm. The focus on the two young stars was typical musical story telling. I didn't think either one did terribly well and down right awful in their singing, which they did a lot.

I was sure this wasn't a movie I was wanting to see, but now I'm pissed that I wasted my time watching it.

GAWD that sucked and sucked on the sucking.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Who am I kidding. I don't care for super hero movies and especially was thinking a reboot... already?

So don't read this review because I thought it blew. First, the reboot. Really? WTF, it wasn't that long ago with the other movies, what, less than 5 years? And from what I do remember, dayum, if it's not the same story with how he became spiderman and his girlfriend and the goofy character... gahhhhhhh.

Don't even get me going on the villian. I just have to roll my freakin eyes. A talking lizard?

I think Hollywood has really lost it. Major saturation of the super hero movies... to the point of starting to do them over?

Emma Stone was my only savior in this. I could just watch her eyes all night.

So, sucky review of the year here. Take it with a grain of salt.

You'll be happy to know they are rebooting Batman within 3 years. Hope to see you standing in line with a bucket of popcorn. No lie.

I'm so hoping for Black Batman next time... I've got a little alternate Justice League growing in my head, black Batman, Indeterminate-Race Superman (appropriately alien), Korean Flash...
