Juan of the Dead



Juan of the Dead is a Comedy-Horror film. Very similar in tone to Shaun of the Dead. I'm not sure I've ever seen a Cuban film before, but they made a decent stab a major motion picture. It's a mixed bag at the production value. Sometimes the scenes are done really well, other times, you can see they had to go cheap. The humor is not bad. I never laughed out loud, but you had some very unique characters in this band of Zombie Killers for Hire.

It's all subtitled with no option for voice over, so that's annoying.

The gore and blood are definitely reserved. I would say maybe a recommend to rent. While not nearly as good as Shaun of the Dead, it's not totally wasted time. It's something different. They brought some fresh idea's to zombies. I guess the one I liked that stood out is some Zombies hiss, like wounded animals, instead of the growl we tend to know.

Being Flynn

I just happened across this flick with Robert DeNiro and Paul Dano. Let me preface that Being Flynn is not a feel good movie. It's depressing. But in the rare instance of a movie, the acting out between these two characters are the main point. Dysfunctional in every respect, but I think just solidifies the grittiness, dirty, depressing world of the homeless and underprivileged. I doubt I would ever watch this movie again, but glad I did see it.

I highly recommend checking out Being Flynn. There is an entertainment value here. Watching DeNiro take a character and run with it again after years of crap, is in a way fun, despite his eclectic and often times despicable behavior.
