Trouble with the Curve

I picked this up because of two reasons, Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams. They did not disappoint. Not a stretch in acting but the chemistry was there. Totally believable of a father daughter relationship. Unfortunately, there is not much of a story to tie this together. Not an interesting one at least. Even for me who does not watch much sports movies, I saw cliche all over the place. And this is not much about sports, so if you're looking for some sports as a big component of the story, look elsewhere.

Justin Timberlake I find as a very likeable actor. Haven't seen him do any bad stuff. But the hour or so we saw, his part was minimal. Maybe the story got beyond Eastwood's character losing his eyesight and his career ending on the horizon, but this is just a slow moving, not interesting story. I most likely will never try to watch this again.

Think you can post some of those cliches here? As for the movie, this is still a must-see given that I'm a huge baseball fan and sports movie nut.

Watched "Iron Sky" this morning, it's the long long awaited "Nazis from the moon" movie and, personally, I liked it.  It wasn't a knock-out smash or laugh out loud flick but this is a ten million dollar flick that shot in three (or four) different countries in two languages with a load of special effects without a single fail and it looks like it cost at least three times that much, so just based on that it's a real achievement.  You know the basics, that the Nazis started a secret colony on the moon, planning on returning to Earth.  Which they do.  Unfortunately for Earth, it's 2018 and  an opportunistic Palin-esque President is in charge.

There's obviously shout-outs to Downfall, alien invasion movies, the Ring Cycle, and Doctor Strangelove -- and in that vein, the whole flick has the same "war is hell and those who lead us into it doom us all" undercurrent that "In The Pirkinning," their previous film, did.  Actually, the whole thing felt like an improved, refined version of what they did with "Pirkinning."  But there's a bit of political in-jokes that fly really under the radar, Finland's role in WWII and so on, it's actually a  smarter movie than it seems at first.

And, not to give too much away, but there's a spaceship (you won't forget his name) that might be my favouriite new ship design in a long while-- though I'm sure that's partly due to the drought in design we've had these past few years.

I think Mac started a thread on Iron Sky, but the search function is coming up empty. Mac, can you dig it up and post a link if you did start it?

I didn't start a specific thread on it, but did review it back in October.

Not sure why the search did not pick this up... twice.

Dog Soldiers

I've watched Dog Soldiers several times now and it's not lost any of his high velocity tension and action. It's a simple movie of a squad in the woods and run against a family of Werewolfs. The acting is good with a full intense mood. A lot happens at night, duh, the moon, but it's lit well enough to know what's going on. I think it's an excellent different take on the Wolf genre. Check it out if you like this kind of horror.

Quote
A British Squad is sent on a training mission in the Highlands of Scotland against Special Operations squad. Ignoring the childish "campfire" stories heard about the area, they continue with their mission and come across the bloody remains of the Special Ops Squad, and a fierce howling is pitching the night sky... With two mortally wounded men, they make an escape, running into a zoologist by the name of Megan - who knows exactly what hunts them. What began as what they thought was a training mission turns into a battle for their lives against the most unlikely enemies they would have expected - werewolves.

I believe the whole movie is on youtube

The I Inside

This is a time travel movie, but more of a psychological thriller. It pretty much starts out running and don't walk away because so much goes on in a short amount of time, it takes full on watching to get the story. Even as much as I was paying attention, I did start to get lost in the time travel and what was real and imagined. Fun movie for the most part. Your rooting the whole time trying to figure out what is going on. The ending may disappoint, but honestly, I wasn't sure how it would end... just don't drop the ball.
