Finishing up all seven seasons of The West Wing.  There is a slight drop in quality when Sorkin left (around the time Jimmy Smits joins the cast, but then the whole show takes a different direction since it's about electing a newcomer).  Totally enjoyable show, but almost EVERY episode has a "hey, THAT guy!" moment.  For instance, this episode has Cricket from "Always Sunny," an earlier one had Abed from "Community" pop up, Al Bundy was a senator, Peggy from Mad Men is the President's youngest daughter, Lisa Edelstein from House is a lady of the night, etc.  Just about every actor has shown up in this series.

And something I QUITE like is that on Netflix, the whole series is in widescreen HDTV which is a nice way to see it for the first time, the whole series feels like a set of movies so it helps to see it in that format.

Not sure what I'll watch when it's done, but I KNOW that I'll get finished with it an hour before I hit the hay and scramble to find something else to watch.  Happens every time.

Still need t put that on my queue.

Okay, I smartly put all my Political shows next to each other on my queue so I switched over to Commander In Chief, which quality-wise is such a step down.  It's no West Wing (and the sets kinda suck in comparison).  Now, I know that not everybody can be Sorkin but he sort of threw the gauntlet down and you gotta try to match that style, especially right off the heels of that show.

I'm already annoyed by the show because EVERYONE is saying that the female VP shouldn't be President, that she was just a stunt and they want her to resign and think she can't do it, then they shouldn't have freaking NOMINATED her!  Heartbeat away from the Oval is not a decision to be made lightly, but I imagine that sort of foolishness will lead many great problems for Geena Davis to clean up (this was 2005, so right when W got his second term).

Oh my GOD, everyone's so freaking condascending on the show, even to the First Husband (a set-up that never occurred to me but now I'm quite eager to see), as if they let the first mentally disadvantaged people they've ever met roam free.  What's going on?

Oh, and the Chief of Staff is Eliza Dushku's handler from Dollhouse.  I keep expecting him to ask "Madame President, would you like a treatment?"

(BTW, I love that the husband on "Commander In Chief" keeps getting called "The First Lady" by his assistant, it's funnier than you think).  Oh!  And Donald Sutherland is in it, and he was SUPPOSED to be President instead.  And you know what that would mean, an America with Astro Boys and Hunger Games!

If it was all like season two with the whole espionage thing, I would agree with you.  I feel like the third season might have gone even wider in its' scope, showing Rossum having its hands in pretty much all the big nations and so on, Illuminati style.  Except that their last episode in season one locked them into the post apocalyptic future.

I tried to watch Troy (the extended edition with all the extra scenes and boobery) but I couldn't get into it, even with the boobery.  Just didn't hold my interest.  What IS it about historical epics that causes the actors and writers to go all flat, they treat the whole thing too seriously, they sap the humanity and spontaneity out of the whole thing.  That sort of thing just bores me, it feels like I'm at school.  With more boobery.

So instead I'm tackling some stuff that I've been putting off (while my internet was down), starting with Resident Evil Retribution.  I actually have a little plan that'll end with Showgirls (happy, pappy?) and all tie into something that I'm writing.  So maybe I'll FEEL productive at least.

Tell me you don't think Gladiator isn't a good film? No boobs there and that STILL kicks ass! I have yet to see Troy myself. It's on my Must-Watch List. So, I will try and knock that one out some time in the coming weeks. Sadly, speaking of boobs, there isn't a pair to be found anywhere in Showgirls. Be sure to post your thoughts on that over in the Showgirls thread once you've finished watching it.

Well, I imagine the people directly responsible for Showgirls feel rather like boobs...

I haven't seen Galdiator I THINK since the VHS age but I remember digging that quite a lot.  Because THAT had attitude and style and I don't remember anyone saying anything out of the blue because it sounds historical-ish like they tend to do in historical flicks.

I WILL share my thoughts on Showgirls after I see it.  No worries.  You've kept pestering me about it.

I watched Resident Evil Retribution last night, and while the first half hour kind of dragged (and the six minute summary at the start didn't HELP), it went nuts for the rest of the run time.  I'm not a big repeater viewer of those flicks but I know there's usually something entertaining.  This flick involved an escape from a giant underwater base with recreations of suburbia, Times Square, Moscow, and Shibuya that they have to fight through cloned nazi-esque stormtroopers and mutant zombies.  And of course, it's not like Disneyworld where there's a passage underneath for the employees so they have to power through these locations.  And I have to say, for a movie involving an escape, SEVERAL characters appear and reappear constantly throughout the whole thing.  And there are quite a few plot holes and funky questions the situations raise but never address.  And like all the flicks, they end with a balls-crazy cliffhanger for what the next movie will be.
