August: Osage CountyI picked this up solely on hearing buzz about it. I knew nothing going into it. The cast looked phenomenal.
I’m not going to rate this. Primarily because just a few minutes into it, I knew exactly what kind of film it would be and that makes me severely biased. I just hate these kinds of dramas and my slamming it with a bad rating is not fair in the context of it all. It just would show I didn’t like the film. I think it won Oscars… I dunno. I don’t care either. I just did not find this film entertaining in any way. I think I’m discovering that about myself. Flat out drama’s just don’t move me. But August, actually is worse because it hits to close to home with reality. I don’t need to sit and watch more of what is going on in my life. I guess I’m strange in that way.
I found this film to be a microscope on dysfunctional family with everything but the kitchen sink thrown in. Some very ugly people with meanness and lies dictating the dialog. I just didn’t find this enjoyable in any sense.
I will give kudos to the actors for letting themselves be displayed in the worst light possible. Not only physically, but in their portrayal of bad people. This made me think of Kramer vs. Kramer years ago. Back then a movie like that was representing current real world thoughts. It too was too close to home. My parents were not doing well and on their way to divorce. Why would I want to sit down and watch a movie about the same thing happening in front of me? It’s ugly.
So, for me personally, I hated sitting through the mud slinging. But that shouldn't impact someone else wanting to see this.
Ignore everything I just said.
