Starship Troopers: Invasion (2012)

This was not bad. Far better than ST 2 & 3. But not nearly as good as the original. They make no attempts to follow the formula, which probably would have been very risky and probably fail miserably. American actors and voices created by Japanese artists and direction. I thought the CGI was pretty good. About the same as Final Fantasy. In retrospect, after all this time you would have thought they could get the dead eye problem figured out by now. Some of the detail was amazing. I remember one up close scene of a character and you could actually see the little dust particles and filaments that float around when the sun light hits it right.

I was surprised to see nudity and by golly, it was well done. Character definition was pretty good. Had their own look and sound, despite being in armor most of the time.

They only used 3 different types of bug here. Also to distinguish themselves, 99% of the story is on space ships.

I recommend it if you like sci-fi, or the original Starship Troopers. There's enough blood, guts and gore, sex and cussing to make a very respectable R-rated movie.  ;D

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

This probably should get a much higher rating. It's not bad at all but I'm not it's target audience. At least I didn't feel it. I felt old people doing old things, in a slow way. The premise is interesting, I just am not ready to even think about my or anyone else's golden years. Bar my mom, which is depressing.

I was just not in the mood for it. Maybe 10 years from now I'll watch it again.

Cabin In The Woods

Saw this in the theaters and watched it again the other night on DVD. It lost a little of the surprise when I originally saw this. By surprise, I mean, they take license with some key horror scenario's, pay homage and throw a major twist throughout the film. It's fun for horror fans. It's also unique. I really enjoyed it.

I did notice this time some of the CGI/special effects where a tad cheesy in places, but not a big deal. Just watch it for fun.

What to Expect when You’re Expecting (1 star)

One star because it doesn’t insult your senses… it just is. The women are pretty. The men are a waste of time.
When watching the trailer, I actually had the thought this may be good. I believe the movie Bridesmaids screwed with my brain, by saying chick flicks can not only be fun, but laugh out loud funny. I have watched decent chick flicks… the titles all escape my tongue, but I know I’ve seen some.

What to Expect when You’re Expecting is nothing but a mindless bore. I pretty much had this pegged within the first 5 minutes of what the rest of the film would unroll out to be. Pretty clichéd with minimal humor. Or should I say humor I found to be funny. I think I’m pretty good at knowing humor from all perspectives, from crude to goofy little cute jokes. Expecting had goofy little jokes, but none that were funny.

Totally dug Cabin In The Woods.

I watched two Stephen King movies last night-- Thinner and Pet Semetary.  Never seen either before.  I was just in that mood but I should really hold off until it's actually October.  Horror movies are strange for me because they usually never scare me (there are some visuals which repulse me but that's not fright).  Probably has to do with the fact that I don't believe in supernatural horror things.  I lived on property with a graveyard and I was never bothered by no undead horse ghosts.  And both movies have the same issue of people doing stupid things instead of sensible alternatives, PS in particular.  I mean, ask yourself, what would you do: your baby was killed by a truck?  Do you a) make a new baby, something so common it often happens by accident and involves f*cking your hot wife at least once, or b) dig up the corpse of your son, lug him across a foreboding landscape, rebury him, and hope he's not evil?  Forgetting apparently that everyone KNEW he was dead and wouldn't believe he'd come back to life and had to have been EMBALMED and so on before being buried?

I read lots of stories that are just a blast... Too read. But sometimes they don't translate to well to film.
