No, it was a major release. I don't recall about it's popularity or staying power

I've HEARD of Lawless.  I just have no desire whatsoever to SEE Lawless.  What's up with all these films I should be digging not drawing in my interest at all?

Paranorman

I was really psyched to see this because I heard so much good about it. Don't get me wrong, it is a very good movie...
... but....

I find Paranorman would probably appeal the best to the tweens or early teens. It is a family movie, but it has that sugary safe look and feel all the time. The humor is OK, but not laugh out loud. All the characters are a blast. I love how they made them so different with facial features, body features and movement. Unfortunately they are stereotypical and we've seen all these characters a million times before.

Like I said, Paranorman is a fun movie, but I have two small gripes. Well, one isn't small. It's the story. It's just not that great. A boy, who because he can see ghosts, is osterized by just about everyone. The other complaint I have is the muted colors. I was expecting some wow throughout the whole movie. There are moments of brilliance, but the overall look is somewhat restrained. I guess I'm really comparing this to some other recent movies that are just amazing in color and depth like How to Train Your Dragon and Dragon Hunters.

Check it out. I know I'm being very nit-picky and I guess I had my hopes  up way high, but you won't regret checking this out.

The extra's are the making of and there are a few good clips that are interesting.

Still have to watch that.

I saw Starship Troopers Invasion the other night and it literally p issed me off so much I had trouble sleeping-- so much needless adrenaline.  I don't know if you saw the making ofs, but I'm so glad I did because just about everything they were boasting about, I felt like the exact opposite was true, pretty much exclusively across the board (with the exception of maybe the spaceships, I did like those).

I also finally saw "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane" (if for no other reason than the one-page summary in "Black Dossier") and it was messed-up and crazy like I was hoping for, now I have to watch "Mommie Dearest" because there's something so cyclically wonderful about the person who played a real physically abused person in a classic film being a real-life abusive person being portrayed in another classic movie by another actress.  It's mind-bending but I like that sort of thing.

Elf is on right now.  I was never a big fan of it-- I enjoy it a little more each time I see it, but I'm still glad that they never made the sequel-- although I am curious to know if they could have actually gotten Bill Clinton to do a cameo in the UN of Santa Clauses scene (yeah, it was a real thing).

Mommie Dearest is awesome in a bad way. Watching Faye Dunaway channeling her inner Joan Crawford is both delicious and disturbing at the same time.

NO! WIRE! HANGERS!!!!!!!!!!!

A little factoid about the movie, or more to the point of what the movie meant to Faye as an actress. Long before I heard it from her in print, I always thought Mommie Dearest did such damage to her career that she would never bounce back. She confirmed the same sentiment herself. It really did do a number on her after the fact. So, you can imagine how over the top she is in this that would pretty much end her career for the most part.

I'm doing my own story on abusive parents and I'm trying REALLY hard not to make them arch but some of these old black and white performances are so wonderfully over the top I just wanna roll with them, "your daddy doesn't love you he should love ME you're just a gooey fart I shat out and gave a name to!" and so on.

Anyway, watching, I watched Tommy Boy last night and it still makes me rewind bits over and over again.  Now just some old Voyager episodes until I get tired enough to fall asleep for god knows how long tonight since I'm only on three hours from the night before.
