Men In Black ³ Three III 3

I went into this expecting little if anything. Maybe, just maybe there was a small flame of hope in me, but alas, quickly blown out. This is not nearly as good as the original and not as bad as the 2nd one, but that's not saying much.

Men In Black only has two things going for it. One is time travel and the cool sets, the other is Josh Brolin's characterization of K. Really the only thing is his voice, because K really has no personality and a deadpan face. Beyond that, this movie was made strictly for a money grab and probably Barry Sonnenfields ego. Has that man done anything of any good 'cept for the first MIB? Will Smith seemed to be forcing the humor and it made it that much more tedious to watch. Cool sets, aliens, weapons, CGI, blah, blah, blah... but what have I been saying. No story... no watchie. Even a bad story I could make fun of would of helped, but this just lacked in any kind of humor, soul or personality. Again, another movie for the tween set I believe. I could not recommend this in any way.

I doubt I'd ever turn it on again.  :-\

I had no desire to see this when it came out and the same holds true for the DVD. It's on the bottom of my list. Actually, it's not even on my list.

My problem with MIB3 was my same problem with JJ's Star Trek and any other movie where time travel is a conceit-- namely that the characters have one predetermined thing they have to do and a set of instructions they need to follow in order to get to that final part.  And since they're always told in advance what to do, they just follow instructions.  There's really no room for plot twists or turns or to let the characters dictate the action.  The whole structure makes the story feel unsurprising, it's plot driven and not character driven.  Now I keep hearing that people don't care about plot, they care about characters, but I don't think that's an absolute truth, I KNOW people want to be surprised by the story and not know about what happens next.  When the plot is so connect-the-dots, it all comes down to the characters and most movies can't and don't have strong enough characters to compensate for that.

I was really hoping when Will Arnett popped up that it would be the first of a parade of wild and silly cameos.  No such luck.

I also felt that the 60s B-movie tech was severely underused.  So much wasted potential there.

Great point about time travel. I'd not thought of that. Couldn't agree more about plot and characters.

V/H/S

Huge letdown in every respect. This movie was and still is getting a lot of buzz. It's been played up for awhile about the newest kind of horror to come out in awhile. V/H/S is montage of 5 stories, laced together by a the central story of thugs raiding a house to steal some V/H/S tapes.

Let me say the shaky cam, which I knew about, was going to taint my expectations. And boy did it ever. Not only is it shaky cam but they seemed to over do it. This is probably the worst I've ever seen. So I could barely stomach that, but the real problem I STILL have is the justification of filming something either when it's so pointless like filming less than ordinary conversations like someone brushing their teeth and talking or even worse, you are about to die and you continue to hold onto a camera and film it. It's not only ridiculous, but takes so much away from the point of the movie.

The five stories vary in some degrees from boring to WTF, over the top paranormal. None of them ever caught my attention. I felt V/H/S was a complete waste of time. I hope it does not 'inspire' others, despite they are already going to make a sequel.

The Dark Knight Rises

Don't blame for not reading this review. I try, but simply don't get it.

EPIC? Don't think so. The music and movie length was.

I had to look up who was being played by Bane and I was having a hard time picturing Tom Hardy, even as he was standing there. A huge bulk of a man. Mr. Hardy is not. Amazing work they did there. The one thing I did like is the brute force this villain contained. No super powers. Just a massive man. A psychotic man, but big.

Rises just seemed to go on all over the place getting very loud in places.

I don't get Batman's voice and Bane's voice was just as irritating. There were times they were talking... I just couldn't understand.

I thought the fist fighting between Bane and Batman seee-ucked. Seriously, I thought Christian Bale, I mean Batman wasn't even trying.

I did like Blake's (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) character. But beyond that. This was just a overblown flick.

The toys were fun... as usual.

So for the fan, I guess this was good? For the casual movie goer, I can't imagine this even registers. I know I'll never waste my time with this.

It plays better of you scatter a bunch of wire hangers on the floor and roll around on top of them as you watch the movie.

It's actually quite interesting how little the person who WROTE the book is as a character in the story, she's just the butt monkey who gets screamed at and slapped... which I guess was her role, but still...

I thought for sure when she was going on about the clean/dirty bathroom floor that she would have made the daughter eat off it.  I can't believe I never wrote that scene myself.

And now I can't help but notice this street she's on is the one from the Star Trek episode "A Piece of The Action."

High Tension

Sound is every thing in this movie. The music, the sound effects, everything.

High Tension is a well crafted cat and mouse thriller from France. The French are known to produce some extreme films and this is one of them. I can’t say much about it or it would spoil the story line. There is not much dialog but that’s because this is a very visual psychological drama. Warning, this is a very gory, bloody film. I don’t believe the extreme is for the torture p orn perspective but actually to up the reality of this particular killer. Kind of a Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original) atmosphere with a Collector tension. If you have not seen either, I recommend them… though they may not be for everybody that easily get squeamish.

Quote
Marie and Alexia are classmates and best friends. Hoping to prepare for their college exams in peace and quiet, they decide to spend a weekend in the country at Alexia's parents' secluded farmhouse. But in the dead of the night, a stranger knocks on the front door. And with the first swing of his knife, the girls' idyllic weekend turns into an endless night of horror.
