I watched the first two Iron Man movies last night, I'm gonna continue with my Marvel movie marathon but before I watch Thor I have to watch "Just Visiting" because if I don't I'll be giggling all throughout Thor, like the last time I tried to watch it (the coffee scene in Thor, all I could think of was "it's from the blue fountain!" until I couldn't hold it together anymore).  And seriously, who wouldn't want to see Thor throw up into a briefcase?

Tai Chi Zero

Tai Chi Zero is a new perspective on age old kung-fu storytelling. Kind of a Scott Pilgrim perspective with heavy influences by video games and comic books. I’ve seen the story a million times before and just found Tai Chi Zero empty with lots of flash and ridiculousness. The reason I wanted to see this was the trailer made this out to be some major bizarre mash up of kung-fu and Steam punk. Well, the trailer lied. Steam punk is such a small portion of the film; I was bored by the time it appeared.

I will give it good marks for style and interesting photography. Less marks for over the top fly by wire fighting and the Master’s who had super hero capabilities.

Maybe recommend a rent if you’re into that specific genre of kung-fu films. Ya may like it or found it bordering on Meh, like me. Others will just hate it.

Pretty unique trailer though

Creep

Creep is an obscure, but recent movie from Britain, I just happened across. The synopses of a women coming across some bad stuff in an underground subway system in London was enough to catch my attention.

It’s unfortunate, none of the people are very pleasant or you want to invest any time with. Then the story unfolds into other horror movie clichés seen many times over. There are several déjà vu moments from American Werewolf in London. But I think what really brought this horror movie down was revealing the ‘monster’, which is some kind of demented albino, diseased skin humanoid (much like The Descent’s bad people) and we watch curiously as he goes through his morbid and gory actions. I mean, it is no longer in the shadows and what will happen next. The camera actually follows it around… It breaks loose all the tension and we just then watch the grossness and dwindles into horror movie 101.

Creep could have been a whole lot better. The production value was good. The photography was good. The sound and sound effects added to the movie. The story and execution could have been better.

I recommend rent for free or wait until it comes on TV somewhere.

Do you seek these obscure titles and then hit your library? Or do you just run through the racks and see what catches your interests?

It depends. I do seek and find. Other times I just happen across them.

I do glance through a couple of horror sites and hear about movies and projects that are being developed. Some sound very interesting but most are Z-grade horror fanatics dreams come true. I try to stick with the mainstream, but always have an ear open for the obscure/interesting ones.

I also just go through my libraries new listings and look for that diamond in the rough. The great thing you know about library material, you can immediately turn it off, if it just sucks, without feeling remorseful. Apparently there are other folks like me that make requests to the library and I’m in constant surprise, yet I’m delighted of what the library purchases. I have no idea what the criteria is for what the library purchases. Those Items they don’t purchase, I go through their inter-library loan and hope some other library has the movie request available.

We also have Charter Cable and they have a lot of “On Demand” material. It takes nothing but a little time to flip through them. IFC and MAX Extreme have some cool stuff on a regular basis. I typically go through the whole listing once a week.

All that being said, there is a LOT that I never get to see… I know about but may never see the light. I can’t have it all but did wish I had fear.net or Chiller TV. And well, you know my feelings about the SyFy channel.

We don't have a "New Listings" thingy. Maybe we do, I've just never seen it on my Library site. Or maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place. For me I have to write stuff down and post in the Hold List thread as I hear about or remember stuff I want to see.

I have it several different ways. The online library has an index available on every page. It contains New DVD's which are then in rotation and Future Release DVD's, of upcoming DVD's. This is where you can put yourself in the queue, even before purchase.

But what I use most is the area they call "On-Order". This is what I sift through every day for new stuff. Maybe dig into the system and see what they might be doing.

I only see 'On Order' when I actually remember to put my name down on a title and click 'Hold'. But as far as a wide-ranging 'On Order' list, I've never seen that on the Main page, etc....Will definitely dig further and see where else it may reside.

Just saw TPB_AFK, the documentary about the Pirate Bay, and the most I can think of it is 'this is clearly a movie shot entirely with a phone."  I did dig the title design though, I just felt that as a documentary it wasn't that exciting or interesting or thought-provoking when it really should have been all three.
