Mama

I started to watch Mama with my wife in the daylight as twilight and night came. It still scarred the hell outta me. Del Toro got involved with this immediately after he saw the short film.

Actually we’ve seen bits and pieces of this story before, but it is put together so nicely with the creepy atmosphere, the photography, the music and excellent acting among the minimal cast here. The littlest girl, is by far the creepiest on screen.

Momentum in the movie starts out of the gate with a gallop and then just slowly gets faster and faster. I might take off a half star for the complete reveal of Mama. If they somehow could have kept the mysterious Mama from full visualization, I think this would have been near perfect. At the same time, I think the ending is somewhat a relief from the intense, edge of seat flick this becomes.

While the whole movie is atmospheric, there are a couple of scenes that make the hair on the neck stand up and the occasional scream.

Loved Mama. If you like this genre, I highly recommend checking it out.

Watching Regarding Henry for the first time.  Pleasantly surprised when a young JJ Abrams popped up in a cameo appearance.  Good movie, though.  And it's definitely hones in on something I always thought about, even as a kid, about what makes us who we are, memory and experiences and so on.  Plus it's really making me miss Harrison Ford, I know he still does stuff from time to time but he's so soulful and interesting to watch in this.

Warm Bodies
Had zero expectations for this. Clearly this is riding on the coattails of Twilight crowd, which I definitely am not. Warm Bodies is a mashup of sorts. It tries to be humorous, but falls more into the 'cute' category. The production values are pretty good. It's an attempt at another angle for the zombie genre, and for those easily amused, I guess this works.

Bottom line, this is not for me. I rolled my eyes almost immediately. Lots of voice over work, well because the main character is a zombie and can't talk.... yet can narrate a movie.
Eye's are rolling

Anyway, it seems to get pretty good accolades from incidences and critics.

So don't listen to me. I'm biased and thought it would be crap from the beginning and in my mind it was.

Is this suppose to be a comedy or taken "seriously" in the world of Zombies? I'm still unclear, even after seeing the trailer a few times when it came out. Is it more like Shawn of the Dead or more like Zombieland?

I'm not sure I'd gone that far to see a separation between those two you mentioned. I find those both horror/comedies, which I find with Warm Bodies... except Warm Bodies is ultra silly and too cute for my tastes.

Well, you can say that I'm thoroughly annoyed at my Library right now. I got Malcolm X yesterday and started watching it this morning. Imagine my surprise that halfway through the movie, it tells me to insert Disc 2 for the remainder of the movie. There was no second disc. But the kicker is that inside the disc tray its labeled with a sticker that says "Disc 2 Missing". Um, WHY THE F*CK IS THIS DVD IN ROTATION FOR PEOPLE TO CHECK OUT? What is the f*cking point of stringing me and everyone else along to the point of not being able to finish the damn movie?

F*CK!!!!!!

I'm seriously peeved right now. Up till today, I had never seen the movie as I kept putting it off. Well the moment is ruined. I'm gonna go to the Library and ram one half of the movie up their asses. They will definitely be hearing about my displeasure regarding this.

Oh I hate that.  I still never finished Nixon because my disc gave up halfway through.  And that's got to be a gorramn long movie if it takes TWO DVDs to hold it.  Is it an old disc?  Seems like there should have been a rerelease or a blu-ray or something for that by now.  I'm dreading something like that happening when I finally get my hands on "The Elephant Man" (yes, I'm STILL waiting for that f-ing movie).

It's a Special Edition DVD, and to my knowledge the second release on DVD. Our branches don't carry Blu-ray for whatever reason. Cost too much I guess. It's one thing if the DVD came with a second disc that failed to play, but another thing for someone in the branch to take the time to write out on a sticker and say "no 2nd disc". They should have written on another sticker and said "sucks to be you" to any and all people that rent the movie. I got gypped!
