Glad ya liked the movie. It's definitely a movie that doesn't need to be re-watched anytime soon. But its such a great film and an incredible performance by Hurt. Now you should check out From Hell when ya get the chance. I should have done a double feature of both movies.

Side Effects

My wife was really looking forward to this. I liked the trailer and it did intrigue me. Unfortunately, IMO, I found the trailer providing the best moments out of this very lackluster slow movie. The acting is on par as to be expected, but the pacing is unbearably slow.

I honestly could tell this was going to be a snorefest within the first 10 minutes. I was not let down. After 60 minutes I just gave up. Like I said, the premise is interesting about a woman with depression taking drugs to help her sleep, but the side effect is sleepwalking, and the tragic event that happens one evening. I guess the rest is trying to sort out the blame, ethics, etc. I was too bored by this time to devote any more time to it.

The Last Exorcism Part II

This sequel is an obvious money grab. The first movie was OK, had some interesting bits, but Part II, had little value to add to the story. There were a couple of jump scares, and that had my attention for a little while, but the script was pretty ordinary and you could read the writing on the wall what was to come next. I did watch the whole thing, but regretted I did.

Just watched a trailer Willow Creek, directed by Bobcat. Don't know dates, release, anything. Doesn't look like my kind of movie though. Found footage - Bigfoot.

I'll try to get the trailer posted.

Seems a bit different from Bobcat's other stuff, but I guarantee that there's probably no real Bigfoot in it and it's probably a big take-down of found footage movies or something.  If it's Bobcat, there's way more than what we're seeing.

Watching "Man Of The House."  Yeah, that movie where Tommy Lee Jones guards the cheerleaders.

Why am I watching it?  Simple: Vanessa Ferlito.  I revisited the Death Proof special features and was reintroduced to the rowr-worthy Vaness Ferliot (who I had a thing for when the movie came out) and Tarantino said she was in this, so I figured "why not?" when it popped up on Netflix.

And as much as I like Vanessa (and she's very much not the cheerleader type in the movie, she's got that self-confident tough Brooklyn thing going on that I like)... but there's two things that blew my mind (so far):

* Christina Milian rocked these tiny shorts in the breakfast scene.  Wow.

* The guy playing the Governor looked really familiar, and I realized a second later that it was the ACTUAL Governor of Texas.  Rick Perry!  The heck is he doing in THIS movie?  (Oh!  He was a cheerleader!  They just said!)

The movie is directed by Stephen (Steven?) Herek, who did The Mighty Ducks and Bill and Ted and so on and it's competent enough, Tommy Lee Jones is a decent straight man, the cheerleaders are cheerleader-y, they use the songs "Everybody Dance Now" and "I'm Too Sexy" (which I think is mandated by crummy movie law), one of the girls is trying to read Romeo And Juliet (you KNOW how I am about that play...

You know, I SHOULD check but I'm just guessing that Christina Milian played a high school cheerleader a couple years AFTER playing a college cheerleader in this movie.

Just started the remake of Footloose.

I'm only ten minutes in and I am in love with the soundtrack.  Like boner love.  So glad I'm taking notes on this one too.

Oh I will, don't you worry.  I already added this to my queue cause I'm sure I'll want to watch it again.  I kinda like that I have no preconceptions with the young cast like I did with Kevin Bacon and so on.

Best In Show

Best In Show has been hanging in the back of mind since forever. Heard mostly good about it. I had just never really attempted to seek it out. Then by chance and I had time, put it on.

So, yes, I was a little biased hearing good stuff and the cast for most part is a group of comedians I've always admired.

Honestly, I did not get it. Maybe I did get what they were doing for the plot, but didn't see the humor in it. I love dogs and get there is a fringe of characters who are over the top with dogs and likewise in their own character. That is a reality. I've met people like that and it's been seen a lot in these dog competitions, documentaries, etc. I don't get recreating these individuals. That was not funny to me. Yes, they are odd characters, but just eye rolling and boring to me. Not funny. I was bored out of my mind with the nonsensical conversations between the folks being interviewed. And the attempts at being silly, were just silly.

Highly disappointed.

I just mark this up to a cult type film that some people feel is great and unique.

I'm not one of them.

Sorry, this is not funny...

"You know, it's hard to believe that in some countries these dogs are eaten."

This is the one with Ed Begley Jr running the hotel, right?  Did you notice the clocks on the wall behind him?

So I was poking around the Netflix offerings and found a NEW "Secret Policeman's Ball" recorded in 2012 for the 50th Anniversary of Amnesty Anniversary.  It was recorded and broadcast live at the Radio City Music Hall in NY and it boasts performances from Jon Stewart, John Oliver, Russel Brand, Ben Stiller, a bunch of people from SNL, David Cross and Bob Oedenkirk, the surviving Monty Python members (pretaped), Tim Roth and Liam Nesson (those crazy kids) and a bunch of British talent like Chris O'Dowd, Peter Serafinowicz, Catherine Tate, and Stadler and Woldorf were in the balcony. TONS of folks.  And Amnesty International is a very worthy cause.

The problem?  There is NOTHING funny about Amnesty International, and since a bunch of the content was to make people aware of the group and the sort of problems in the world they're trying to solve, a lot of it just wasn't funny.  Plus a good deal of comedy is based on surprise and when you know the skit is ABOUT something you can kind of see where it's going.  The only good skits were the ones that weren't about Amnesty but original comps (like the mr Show sketch) but those were few and far between.  Unlike the old ones (which are worth a watch) which had brilliant little elements like The Beekeeper sketch.

They had Jon Stewart and they made him ACT.  The perfect person to talk about Amnesty, inform us and make us laugh, and they made him do a little joke act thing.  Waste of his talent.

Honestly can't recommend this.

However, I did put in "You're Welcome America, One Final Evening With George W Bush! With Will Ferrell."  Haven't seen it in years and it's SO freakin' funny, I'm bending over laughing every few minutes, the antidote to what I just saw which was a WHOLE SLEW of comic talent.  That's saying something.

Never even heard of the "Special" till you brought it up and after reading your review, it's definitely not something I'm ever going to visit. But I just may go ahead and check out You're Welcome America, One Final Evening With George W Bush! With Will Ferrell though.
