The original Secret Policeman's Ball was set-up by the members of Monty Python and they brought in Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, and over the years they brought in new talent like Rowan Atkinson and later on Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.  And fantastic, famous music guests like Sting, Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Kate bush, Jackson Browne, Peter Gabriel, Jeff Beck...  Shout Factory put them on DVD (which is how I saw them) and they're worth a watch (I forgot to mention that the "new" special had a long performance by Mumford And Suns and Coldplay).

I've only know about the two Policmen's Ball from years ago (there's a joke there somewhere  :-\)

But yea, this new one doesn't sound like something to seek out.

The Call 1-1/2 stars

Halle Berry must have the same manager as Cuba Gooding Jr. Because their choices in movie projects are definitely head scratchers. I think they are both good actors, but they consistently are getting involved in projects that not only are not propelling them forward, but actually placing them in B-actor line.

The trailer The Call sparked my curiosity. And unfortunately, that’s all it did. My fears came true. Your are essentially watching the entire movie of two people on the phone. Abigal Breslin (Zombieland and Little Miss Sunshine) was basically a blubbering mess. Except for the last part of the final act, her character did nothing but cry hysterically. Halle Berry was fine. It was just a lame construction of the script. Many times they tried to pump up the tension with heart pounding music.

The 3rd act does jump the rail in my opinion. The few minutes you will either roll your eyes or drop your jaw. Oh hell no, they just didn’t end it like that.

IMO, it just really ****ed me off.

It’s not horrible, but you might fall asleep and do not blame the messenger for the messy ending, but I would cautiously recommend this if you have nothing else.

Wow. That's really disappointing to hear. The trailer is what sold me on it. I guess the trailer is the best thing about the movie huh? Well, this just dropped way down on my 'must-see' list. Maybe if there isn't anything else available I may decide to check it out then.

Let's just say Phonebooth was way better. Whatever your views are on Phonebooth. Decent, but still trying to sell me more than it turned out to be.

So glad my sister started with and is now obsessed with the Newsroom so I have someone to talk about it with.

Right now... some Star Trek The Next Generation.  Not a thousand percent sure what will happen after that.

Since it was about to expire, I watched Memento last night for the first time in ages.  Still damn good (and I forgot several pieces of the film, though I did remember Carrie Anne Moss's little manipulations), but now that I think back-- I don't think they showed where the coaster that introduces Natalie came from.

Memento has been sitting on my coffee table the past couple of months. Just been waiting for the perfect time to re-watch it again.
