Now You See Me

I’ve been wanting to watch this flick ever since it came out at the theaters. We almost went. I’m kinda glad I didn’t go. While I enjoyed the movie, I would have felt like I paid too much.
Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed most of the movie. I think it tripped up in the final act. Now You See Me is a very slick, tightly told story of several heists performed through magic and illusions. The distinguishing thing here is the money is not the object. The magicians give it all away to the audiences. There’s other reasons for the heists.

It’s fun, trying to figure out who the Fifth Horseman is. All the characters were unique and fun to watch. It has plenty of action to satisfy just about everybody. It seemed to have all the right ingredients.

I just think there are some plot holes and messing with the viewing audience to make it all come together at the end. But people will most like dismiss that and just sit back and enjoy the film.

I highly recommend Now You See Me

World War Z

I saw this in the theater and my mind hasn't changed. Enjoyable, but not so much to want to buy it or watch it over and over.

Frankenstein’s Army

Frankenstein’s Army is one messed up flick. Messed up in the bizarre sense. Messed up in the very creative sense. Messing with your mind.

A small Russian troop has slowly been fighting the horrors of war across the German landscape. They  invade a small German town where things really get bad because one mad scientist, Frankenstein, has been experimenting mashing up Nazi’s and machines.

While a lot of the scenes are ‘disturbing’, I did find myself white knuckling on occasion. It is over the top creativity with the monsters, but the confrontations do become rather visceral. It reminds me a little of The Human Centipede and it’s been a very long time since I played Wolfenstein, but Frankenstein’s Army brought back memories much like playing the game. I also find the movie much like experiencing a nightmare.

Frankenstein’s Army certainly is different. I found the extra’s “Making of” pretty interesting too. I mean, the movie is like a nightmare, but once you see the ‘normal’ people behind the making of the film, the creativity, the inventiveness by folks like you and me, it just shines a whole new perspective on a project like this.

I found it interesting and entertaining. I would recommend this if your a horror fan.

No One Lives

I tried to find a trailer that didn't give to much away. It's better to just watch the movie quickly unfold.

Didn’t think much about this movie when picking it up. I only remember the trailer intrigued me.
The synopses on the back sums it up well.

Quote
A ruthless criminal gang takes a young couple hostage and goes to ground in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. When the captive girl is killed, the tables are unexpectedly turned. The gang finds itself outsmarted by an urbane and seasoned killer determined to ensure that no one lives.

This is an interesting film in that at the core, it is a gory, slasher movie with a psychopath who, though has no heart, is very intelligent. The character reminds me of Chigurh from No Country for Old Men. And his targets are low life’s that get what’s coming to them. And to add some thickness to the rather straightforward story is young woman who already come face to face with the serial killer and is telling her new captors what to expect.

There is one scene in here that is extraordinary and you will drop your jaw and go “Oh, no he din’t”. You may buy into it or you may roll your eyes. You will know without hesitation what I’m talking about.

No One Lives does get very, very bloody, I think it’s more than the standard fare of mindless slasher movies. While I probably won’t watch it again, I was entertained while watching it last night.

Star Trek Into Darkness

A big Meh

I enjoy Star Trek, of what I've seen in TV shows, movies and such. I really liked the Abram's reboot, but I was not stoking to see this.

While I was entertained, it just didn't do much for me, especially to watch it again. It all seemed formulaic in the sense, the story throws the worst things that can happen and you know somehow, it will turn out right.

There were several things in here I didn't understand. The biggest one by far is Mr. Spock. i just don't get any of that. I'm not buying into Spock having a any kind of girlfriend. That all just seems so forced. Lastly, Into Darkness has Peter Weller as Adm Marcus who for some reason has a British talking daughter.

All minor stuff, but still a story that was watered down over two hours and just becomes mediocre for me.

It looked and sounded great though.  :P
