I still don't understand why, if it's Earth, all the creatures are made up.  Shouldn't it still be tigers and lions and bears and snakes and stuff like that?  If it's different creatures, shouldn't it be a different planet?

I still don't understand why his parents would ever name their child M. Night.

Because he's the opposite of Charlie Day (actually, his name is Manoj, I think "Night" might be an adaptation of "Nelliate," his father's name).

You know, outside of the Simpsons Treehouse of Horrorses, I haven't watched that many horror movies this month (though I did revisit the Shining last night).

Aftershock

I've known about Aftershock for quite some time because of Eli Roth's involvement. I'm not sure it ever hit the theaters and then suddenly it shows up at the library.

Well, aftershock is a mess. It could have been good, but the overall look and feel comes very close to a SyFy channel productions. Eli Roth just can't act. He had some production input it too and the gory scenes are his work. Many problems start with almost 40 minutes of introducing people. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to long and they are not that interesting. Then after the Earthquake, it doesn't really know what direction to take and just tries them all. Survival, danger by buildings, danger by mob, danger by prison break, danger by one lunatic. The editing was horrible and the special effects as I've said, it reminiscent of SyFy material.

I really gave up within minutes after the quake, because it just was uninteresting.

I'll never watch this again.

The Heat

The Heat is everything we've seen before... EXCEPT with women this time around. The mixed buddy cop movie, but this time with a foul mouthed woman forced to be partner with her exact opposite.

Very funny stuff. It maintains it laughs throughout. Sandra Bullock rarely disappoints and she is great here. One of the anticipated elements is when will Ashburn let loose with cussing?

And Melissa McCarthy is just a barrage of lines. R-rated lines and it never gives up. If you've seen the outtake of This is 40, the principal scene.... that is McCarthy through the whole movie. I found that funny as hell.

Paul Fieg directed and he apparently knows his female comedy (Bridesmaids).

Must watch the extras. Though they don't say gag reel, it is all gags from the movie. I laughed more watching these.

Highly recommend.

Just finished "The Perfect Host" (I've seen it before, but holy cow is David Hyde Pierce creepy when he wants to be), now I've finally decided to crack into "Red State."

David Hyde Pierce = psychopath torturing a guy who broke into his house.  Def worth a watch.
