The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

I’m not going to rate this. It’s not my type of movie. I watched for the adventure vs. the plot and it delivers. Actually it can get exhausting there is so much action going on. For the most part it was done well. Beautiful sets, gorgeous photography

But they went way overboard with the CGI. I realize 95% of the movie is CGI just because of the fantasy content. And as hard as they tried, I was still put off by the obvious CGI characters and stark contrast to real elements.

Knowing nothing about the book and the story, Desolation did appear to have little meaty content and was just one long road trip adventure. I’m sure I’m glossing over a way more detailed nuanced story, but that’s my take away from it.

Unfortunately, the movie jumps the shark for me. When the giant spiders and dragon talk and have conversations, it goes into that particular fantasy film that just makes me roll my eyes.

Curious to know if you are/were a fan of the Original Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Not that it impacts anything here. Just want to know.

Peeples

I'm apparently giving this more love than most. It was unexpected pick and we both enjoyed the mindless fun. I like Craig Robison when he is on (he was not on for Rapture-Palooza... Gawd that was awful)

Kerry Washington, beautiful as ever, and more funny than I've seen before.

David Alan Grier ALWAYS makes me laugh. Perfect for this role.

I almost was not going to watch it. It started off too close to home with Kerry's character idolizing her dad. My ex was that way and there was no comedy there. Regardless, I let it go, and it turned out fun.

Some great music in here too.

Yet another 'award winning' drama that bored the crap outta me. I went into this reluctantly. My wife really wanted to see this. She feel asleep about 30 minutes into it.

I think the core of the story has some meat. A very old woman, holding onto a secret for 50 years of the atrocities of Catholic Nuns selling her son for a profit. Her child hood life horrible. Depicted in flashbacks. It's the current times where the story just slowly plods along. I turned it off after 45 minutes.

I could see Catholics hating this film.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

I don't like Ben Stiller except in Dodgeball, where I found him a funny douche. Otherwise, he does absolutely nothing. I'm not sure why I picked this up. I tried, but when Mitty zones out and goes into fantasy situations, I just rolled my eyes. I turned it off after 15 minutes.

Ben Stiller is definitely an acquired taste. I swear that I already said that before elsewhere on here. Anyway, I'm still very much looking forward to getting my copy from the Library when it comes in.

Since it's about to expire, I decided to check out Tron Uprising.  Interesting series, sort of looks like Aeon Flux mixed with Tron Legacy: very stylized, skinny CGI people with REALLY long legs.  And celeb talent out the wazoo: it's so weird hearing Bruce Boxleitner in a series again, but you've also got Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore Emmanuelle Chiriqui, Reginald freaking VelJohnson (as a skinny man, no less)... Olivia Wilde was even in an episode (and it's really weird seeing a pretty exact likeness alongside all these stylized people.

And this episode has the most mind blowing four words yet:

Guest starring Aaron Paul.

Yeah, b*tch!

Though why they cast HIM in a Disney series, I'll never know.  But his character's got a funky visual style to him, yo.

I can't recall if I even knew about Tron Uprising. I'm guessing yes, but for the life of me, I've not heard jack sh*t about it till now.

It's... it's made for an audience that really wanted more Tron Legacy.  Which was, apparently, not enough to support an expensive CGI show on an expanded cable channel.

Aaron Paul's character is totally making me think of Jesse Pinkman went down Heisenberg's down path.
