While I saw it in the movie theater, I thought I should mention that I saw THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE the other day (I took my mom for Valentine's Day b/c that's what she likes to do). It was adorably awesome, but it struck me later that it connected to two other Batman movies I saw.
First, the whole plot with forming the bat-family reminded me of "Batman Bad Blood," which was about Batman disappearing and Dick Grayson temporarily taking over the mantle with Damien serving as his Robin. they introduced Batwing and there was a lesbian Batgirl/woman (I can't remember), so... yeah, similar but different. And I now realized how much better that movie would have been if they had
**** a couple jokes.
The second one I just happened to get the disc of in the mail when I got home from the movie: Return Of The Caped Crusaders, an animated throwback to the 66 Batman series (although it doesnt' take near enough advantage that the Batman '66 comic series did. I would have loved to have heard Adam West mention "that immortal assassin Ra's Al Ghul and his sinister League of Shadows!"). Lego Batman brought back a ton of obscure villains (like Clock King, King Tut, Calender Man, and Vincent Price's Eggman) and all of them were in ROTCC too! They found some cute things to do, but it felt like... it could have been a LOT more fun. It was offbeat and weird, though.
The issue I have with all of those direct to DVD DC films is that they're just so flat to me... the animation is so stiff, the scripts aren't that detailed... it always bugged me, but after LEGO BATMAN you realize that these should be the definitive Batman movies and aren't.
