Finished the first two seasons of Travelers... you may have noticed that I made a thread for it.  Love the season finale, and VERY happy to see that the show is coming back WITH Erick McCormack returning to star AND direct an episode.  I was concerned about that given the Will and Grace revival, this is an hourlong show which aren't easy to make (even if there are only 13 episodes per season).  I definitely don't want to lose MacLaren because he's the glue of the show, but honestly I dig just about all the characters on the show.  And if you don't like them, well, they can be over-ridden (case in point, one character I was kind of weak on wound up becoming one of my favourites).

I was thinking I would follow the show up with Legion, but I think you need something less strong to clear the palette first.  I tend to forget that.  But oh man, it feels like ages since I just binged a show like that one, no notes, no GIF-making, no screencapping...

Legion was by far one of the best new series I watched last year. It's fun, but it's very serious. A lot of undertones at work with each episode that really makes the viewer think and think hard.

I'm working my way through Everybody Wants Some and I'm not quite sure how I feel about it.  I love all the music, and there are LONG  music sequences in it (I assume that's why they needed Paramount monty to get this finished), but it feels like it might be trading on that a bit too much.

The movie is about a college baseball team sharing a house together and trying to get laid, and I get the impression that it's trying to be a bit like Dazed and Confused, but... and maybe this is because I'm just not a macho guy's guy... I'm bored with the guys.  There are some interesting characters, and it feels like I'm hanging out with them (which I guess is the idea of the movie, a mood piece more than a story piece) but... these aren't the people I'd normally hang out with.

I suppose the other issue with comparing it to Dazed And Confused is that that cast is famous... and they might have been at the time, or at least relatively well known younger actors, whereas I don't know who ANYONE in this movie is.  Maybe that'll change in the future, retroactive recognition, but I dunno.  The only one I really kinda like is the stoner with the beard, and I can't even tell you that much about him.

The picture is also REALLY clean, and I guess I expect there to be a certain amount of film grain and a dip in image quality... and I guess it would have been really easy to just add fake film grain on and lean on it, so I give them credit for not doing that...   I dunno, it just feels like something's missing.  The secret ingredient.  Or maybe I just can't see it.

Also, I should point out I'm almost an hour into this movie now and the love interest hasn't shown up yet.

So on a lark and an oooooold recommendation from an old friend, I had the Emanuelle movies on my Netflix queue and one came in.  And I'm rolling through it and it's... well, there's some gross stuff, BUT all of a sudden I see this steam room and I think "that looks REALLY familiar."  And then there's a pool and I thought "that looks a lot like the pool and the chairs and OH MY GOD THEY SHOT A DIRTY MOVIE AT MY OLD HOUSE!"  That might have been THE most mind blowing thing to have EVER happened to me.  Especially because the movie is supposed to take place in New York and the house is in Italy.  And it's not like they dug the pool and did a scene there, it's 17 MINUTES of screen time!

And you know what?  The house BARELY changed in the 20 years or so since that movie and the time I lived in it.  The freaking standing scale and pool basket are both in the same places!  It was a mix between sentimental nostalgia and abject horror.  WOW.

That's awesome. A friend of mine had Alan Funt's Playboy Candid Camera shoot a segment inside and outside of their house and that too was surreal to see after the fact.

The Skin I Live In

There's ONE thing in this movie that I can't wrap my head around, that breaks this otherwise incredible movie for me, and I can't tell you what it is unless you see it.

You should see it.  if you like totally f*cked up stuff (it kinda reminds me of Nip/Tuck with sexy Frankentstein).  Plus Elena Anaya is amazing in this movie as the patient.  Antonio Banderas is awesome, music is brill, cinematography is awesome.  It's... something.  Definitely glad I saw it.  But I just can't wrap my head around that ONE thing.
