The Legend Is Born: Ip Man Totaling loving the original Ip Man and liking Ip Man 2 just slightly less, I was excited to see a third was coming. I knew Donnie Yen had no intentions of continuing Ip Man and pretty much shut that door, so the studio's decided to make a prequel of sorts. The early years of Ip Man with a strikingly younger looking Donnie To.
Disappoint comes to mind. This is no where near the caliber of the original two. In fact, the acting is pretty damn bad in places. The story has been done a million times before in the martial arts movies. Some bad guy of the village gives trouble to the school. There are other minor stories going on, but none get that interesting.
The fights are pretty good. Wire work is limited and that's good. Can't stand that stuff. The video is clear, despite the director of photography changing perspective throughout. It starts off in filters of brown, then turns normal color and then some scenes of intense color. A little weird.
I can only slightly recommend this if your a fan of the Ip Man franchise. If your not, you still might like the basic story.
