I finally got my hands on
White House Down. Took my
Library long enough to get me a copy. F*ck! Anyway, after being underwhelmed with
Olympus Has Fallen and knowing that
WHD is going to borrow heavily from
Die Hard, I really wasn't expecting much. Surprisingly, I found this infinitely more entertaining than
OHF. I just think that
WHD is just a better overall movie and does a better job of making us empathize with the main characters played by
Channing Tatum and
Jamie Foxx. Even though this is suppose to be a "serious" movie, it does have that patented humor that you find in
Roland Emmerich's movie to lighten up the mood when it's needed. And there are some genuinely funny moments to be had, courtesy of
Foxx at just the right time.
As entertaining as
WHD is, it isn't perfect by a long stretch though. Some of the Special FX shots were really bad. If you're going to rely on using greenscreen/rear projection because you can't shoot at the actual White House, please do a better job of blending both elements to look like one seamless scene. There were plenty of spots that just screamed 'rush job'. This really is the only issue I had with the movie and really won't take away from a fun 2 hours. Definitely worth a
Rent. One thing I gotta mention, while watching
WHD tonight and seeing what
Channing can do in an action role like this, I was kind of playing history revision. If we could go back in time, I would have him playing
John McClane's son in
A Good Day to Die Hard. Would that have made the story any better? Nope. But it would probably have made sitting through the movie a lot easier as I just did not like
Jai Courtney in the role at all. But that's another issue for another time in another thread,,,,,,
