Logan (2017)

Trailer

I have been waiting to check out Logan since the day that Trailer dropped and this has been a long ass wait. Finally got to check it out and it more then delivered expectations. I had set the bar pretty high based on the trailer and the story for this one and of course this being the final outing for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine / Logan. There is a lot to like about the film, but first I gotta talk about the R-Rating this movie gets. One of the big selling points was of course that this wasn't going to be your cookie cutter, generic Superhero flick. It was going to be a gritty, dirty and in-your-face flick. So, did get earn its R-Rating? Oh hell f*cking yeah it does! Seriously, Logan makes every other X-Men flick look pretty lame by comparison in how sanitized they are. Logan is truly the only legit movie that gets the character right because of what we finally get on the big screen. With that said, I was really shocked at just how intense, violent and gory it was at times. I'm talking about decapitations, impaling's, limbs being sliced off. If you can think of a gruesome way to go...it's in here. Also, they made good use of the F-Bombs. Definitely earned a very, very hard R and I loved it for that.

As for the story, it was done extremely well. Basically we are following both Logan and Xavier as they both are facing their own mortality. The story takes place long after their days as members of X-Men and are well beyond their prime. Along the way we get a new character  Laura / X-23 played by Dafne Keen who is fantastic in the role. It's no spoiler to mention that she turns out to be Logan's daughter. It's pretty obvious from the trailer. But the movie's heart and soul of course comes from the extraordinary performance by Jackman. You will get tears in your eyes by the end. Not to be outdone of course is Patrick Stewart is gives another great performance as well. I highly recommend this a must-Buy. I'll wait to see if there is going to be a Special Deluxe Edition DVD though. The Library only had a bare-bones version that only had deleted scenes and commentary. I want more than that. Anyway, some amazing set pieces that will give you a rush no doubt. Logan taking on X-24 is a scene stealer no doubt. 5 Stars out of 5. This movie is just so f*cking good!

Logan | Dafne Keen's Audition Tape with Hugh Jackman | 20th Century Fox

This is damn impressive for any audition.

That was such a good movie.

You know what's really strange?  Despite so much of it being in out of the way places, it feels like it takes place in the real world a lot more than any of the other X-Men movies do.  I'm not sure why.

Laura was awesome, great communication with the eyes.  Patrick Stewart was fantastic, I can see why he wouldn't want to play Charles again given how much he was able to do with Charles in that condition (with the exception of Legion, which I'm sure would give him space to play as well).  Jackman was fantastic, you just get that sense of... the whole hundred plus years of life, the end of the X-Men, everything.. he's carrying that all the time, he's persisting but he wants it to end but knows he can't give up yet.  That's in every breath of the performance.  Wonderful.  And I had no idea that Stephen Merchant was in this or that he would be that good as Caliban.
